The New Summit

The Humanity on Earth, is moving and progressing towards a vast and complete Transformation, towards the Next Step in the Evolution on earth, towards the emergence of a New Race on earth. Mankind is proceeding towards the New Summit of Coneciousness and Existence. And in this March onward, we are all being led by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother [Mirra Alfassa], whether we are conscious or not. And it is unfortunate that the majority is in ignorance!

According to Sri Aurobindo, Man is a transitional being, who will have to be transformed, collectively, towards the formation of a New Race. Sri Aurobindo's appearance among the Mankind is one of the biggest events that has taken place in the history of the Earth.

The Mother came to Pondicherry on 29 March 1914 and met Sri Aurobindo for the first time. On the next day, She wrote :

"Gradually the horizon becomes distinct, the path grows clear, and we move towards a greater and greater certitude.
It matters little that there are thousands of beings plunged in the densest ignorance, He whom we saw yesterday is on earth ; his presence is enough to prove that a day will come when darkness shall be transformed into light, and Thy reign shall be indeed established upon earth.
O Lord, Divine Builder of this marvel, my heart overflows with joy and gratitude when I think of it, and my hopes have no bounds.
My adoration is beyond all words, my reverence is silent."

Thereafter, The Mother joined Sri Aurobindo and organized Sri Aurobindo Ashram at Pondicherry.

These words from her, on her first meeting with Sri Aurobindo, are self-explanatory. The existence of Sri Aurobindo gives rise to the boundless hope that, one day, the Divine reign shall be on earth and that darkness shall be transformed into light. Sri Aurobindo is the Hope of Man, in spite of the fact that multitudes of human beings are plunged in the densest darkness and ignorance. Prayers of millions of human beings through millennia have been answered by the Supreme in the form of Sri Aurobindo

Sri Aurobindo has said :
Surely for the earth-consciousness the very fact that the Divine manifests himself is the greatest of all splendours. Consider the obscurity here and what it would be if the Divine did not directly intervene and the Light of Lights did not break out of the obscurity – for that is the meaning of the manifestation….
It is the omnipresent cosmic Divine who supports the action of the universe; if there is an Incarnation, it does not in the least diminish the cosmic Presence and the cosmic action in the three or thirty million universes.
The Descending Power (Avatar) chooses its own place, body, time for the manifestation.
The Avatar is necessary when a special work is to be done and in crises of the evolution.

O thou who climbest to man from the dull stone,
Face now the miracle summits still unwon.

Thus said Sri Aurobindo to us, to the beings who have maneuvered and become the humans through the long and prolonged difficult course of Evolution — from the stone to the human. That was the story of the Creation of Man.

And now we will have to face and conquer the new summits beyond Man, beyond human being and the human consciousness. We shall have to conquer the new heights of Consciousness and have the miraculous capacities to transform ourselves for the New Creation, for the Advent of the New Man, the Superman, the Supramental Being.

We shall have to ascend the heights of the higher ranges of Mind — of the Higher Mind, the Illumined Mind, the Intuitive Mind , the Overmind — the ascend the heights of the Gnosis, the Supramental Consciousness. And before all these Ascents to be made, we shall to have to discover and know the truth in us, the Psychic Being.

That is the Task before us. For, that is the Truth. The Spirit, involved in the Stone that has become Man, has to evolve further and manifest Itself.

The Mother has prayed before the Supreme :

Lord, we are upon earth to accomplish Thy work of transformation. It is our sole will, our sole preoccupation. Grant that it may be also our sole occupation and that all our actions may help us towards this single goal.

This Evolution is the Work of the Divine, the Supreme. The Supreme, the Existence Consciousness Bliss has become the Stone, the principle of Matter through Involution. And thence the return March of the Supreme — from Matter to the Supreme Consciousness again. And Man has come into being in course of Evolution in the return March.

But in Evolution, the One willed to become the Many.

"It is the Will of the Supreme that created the Manifestation. In words, it may be said that He thought : "Ekoham, bahu syama." [ I am alone, and shall become many.] When the Existence-Consciousness became many, countless many, and each of the many is a Soul.

The Divine began His return March and has reached the stage of the Human. Now the Human has to collaborate with the Divine to manifest the Divine in Many as the Supramental Race.

Ignorance and Darkness and diseases and Death have to conquered, as those belong to the falsehood. That is the Will of the Divine.

The Mother had prayed :

The hour has come when a choice has to be made, radical and definitive. Lord, give us the strength to reject falsehood and emerge in Thy truth, pure and worthy of Thy victory….

As ordinary human beings, we are leading ourselves to the Abyss, through our lowest emotions, passions, pre-occupations and occupations, through our fears and distrust and gross indulgence. Often we close our eyes to the Light, often we shut up our inner windows when we hear the Call. We lend ourselves to be controlled and managed by the Asura.

The Mother has further said:

The Asura is the force of falsehood, antidivine, which reigns as sovereign over the physical world; his influence is felt everywhere, it is in everything in Matter. But the time has now come when the separation, the purification, can be made, the falsehood, the Asuric influence, rejected and there can be an exclusive living in the Divine Truth.

On the 1^st January 1967, The Mother gave us the warning :

Men, countries, continents!
The choice is imperative:
Truth or the abyss.

The Mother further said:
The message is only for those who are still asleep and quite satisfied with their sleep.

We find that still the majority of the humankind is asleep, asleep in darkness and ignorance with all satisfaction.

The Truth is that we shall have to aspire and endeavour for the Ascent, we shall have to prepare ourselves and be ready for the Next Step, we shall have to stop remaining satisfied with our present state of being immersed in gross indulgence and inner blindness and blocked consciousness, of being involved with hatred and jealousy and greed and violence, of being conquered by darkness and ignorance and death.

If we accept the Truth, we are opening the gates of great possibilities. The Mother says : This wonderful world of delight waiting at our gates for our call, to come down upon earth…

We shall have to accept this Truth. Otherwise the Abyss is sure. To stop remaining the grossly animal man, immersed in darkness and narrowness and hatred and violence, that is what is desired. Our pre-occupation and occupation should be The New Summit, the New Evolution.

30. I saw a child wallowing in the dirt and the same child cleaned by his mother and resplendent, but each time I trembled before his utter purity.

Whether the child is wallowing in dirt or he is cleansed by his mother, the Seer in Sri Aurobindo trembled to see the utterness of his inner purity.

The human child is not conquered by the Ego; neither is the consciousness of the child touched by the grossness of the animal hunger and lust and anger, nor has he (or she) the egoism and narrow selfishness and the mental preparations, distortions and twists, with numerous limits and limitations of the ordinary mind that the grown-up common man has. The Mother has said that the purity that we observe in the child is the purity of the instinct. Mind has not started its play and evolution in him as yet.

The Mother says:

For the purity of which Sri Aurobindo speaks here is the purity of instinct, that obeys Nature's impulses spontaneously, never calculating, never questioning, never asking whether it is good or bad, whether what one does is right or wrong, whether it is a virtue or a sin, whether the outcome will be favourable or unfavourable.

However, in the present circumstances of the "civilized" humanity, as the child grows, the mental ego in him grows, and also grows in him his selfishness, his calculations and the sense of profit and self-interest. This is because the Mind grows in him and the elderly ones so train and teach him directly and through their own examples. As the child grows, his parents and teachers, as they are now, mostly, train him to grow with the ego and with the mental preparations and distortions and limitations.

The Mother says:

In modern "civilised" life, parents and teachers, by their practical and rational "good advice", lose no time in covering up this spontaneity which they call unconsciousness, and substituting for it a very small, very narrow, limited mental ego, withdrawn into itself, crammed with notions of misbehaviour and sin and punishment or of personal interest, calculation and profit; all of which has the inevitable result of increasing vital desires through repression, fear or self-justification. But the emergence and the manifestation of the Mind in the innocent human child is unavoidable. The evolutionary way is that Mind must grow and evolve. Foe, after the evolution of Mind, Man has to transcend and go beyond Mind and proceed towards the Supramental Becoming and Manifestation. After the evolution of Mind, the further evolution beyond Mind can take place — for, that is the Aim and the purpose of Evolution.

As the human child shall have to grow and participate in the Future advancement and progress, he shall have to pass through the play and growth of the Mental, breaking his innocence and purity, so that he can march ahead towards the Superconscious purity and innocence of the Supramental Future.

In order to enable the child to grow ahead towards this Supreme Goal of the Supramental Becoming and Manifestation, the child needs Education, as it should be.

The Mother has said:

The education of a human being should begin at birth and continue throughout his life.

It is important to add what The Mother has further said:

Indeed, if we want this education to have its maximum result, it should begin even before birth; in this case it is the mother herself who proceeds with this education by means of a twofold action: first, upon herself for her own improvement, and secondly, upon the child whom she is forming physically.

It may be added here that according to Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, education, to be complete and integral, must have the five principal aspects: the physical, the vital, the mental, the psychic and the spiritual. [The details may be discussed later in the proper context.]

A complete and successful education alone can lead a man properly on the Path of the Next Evolution , from the inborn purity of the child to the super-conscious purity of the Supramental. It is the demand of the Evolution, backed and supported by the Divine Will, that the human being must grow beyond Mind and evolve as the Supramental Being — which is the Goal, the Task before Man.

Sri Aurobindo has given the Call to each of us:

O Thou who climbedst to mind from the dull stone,

Turn to the mirac1ed summits yet unwon.

This Task of evolving towards becoming the Supramental Being may seem to be impossible to us. But Sri Aurobindo has also said to us about the Call of the Impossible.

The impossible is our mask of things to be,

Mortal the door to immortality.

29. I have forgotten what vice is and what virtue; I can only see God, His play in the world and His will in humanity.

When one has so advanced in Yoga that he only sees God, he is no more in the Ego, and surely he has become one with the Divine — he has realized the Oneness with the Divine. And then, virtue and vice has no meaning for him any more. The Divine Will is then the only worthy and meaningful indication for him.

A question may arise that, if God's Will is everything, why then there is the personal will, the human will and what is its use.

The Mother has answered it, saying that everything in the Universe and especially on earth is according to a Divine Plan. Everything here is an execution of the Divine Will, and Nature is a part, an aspect of It. And the personal will, the human will, is a part of Nature, a means of Nature's action. The Mother has said: "So, personal will is in a way part of God's Will."

We should understand properly what "will" is. The human will is a thought, supported by a 'force' for execution and also supported by an 'impulse'. Often, it is supported by a lesser knowledge and/or understanding, lesser force and lesser and baser impulses and instincts. We find on earth and among humans clash of wills. Whenever the thought and the force and the impulse backing the will is limited, more or less, conditioned by unconsciousness or half-consciousness, by grossness, by lack of enlightenment, there comes the question of clash or the question of virtue and vice.

"The Divine Will is omniscient and omnipotent, it is irresistible and immediate in its execution' — The Mother says.

Whenever the human will is in accordance with the will of Nature, it is then fulfilled or executed, sooner or later, depending on the prevailing conditions and circumstances. It is also possible that the human will, the personal will is in accordance with, or even directly one with, the Divine Will. It may be so by the Grace of the Divine or by a Yogic advancement or ascension. Through a proper use of the personal will, one may ascend or go back to the Divine, rising from the half-consciousness, from the animal consciousness. The Will is the Way to the Divine Realization, as it is in accordance with the Divine Will.

As long as the Ego is there, untouched by the Grace or by the Yogic realizations, darkness prevails. But within us, within each of us, the Divine Child is there, and we shall proceed ahead, now or later, towards the greater Truth beyond Ego, beyond half-consciousness, beyond inconscience and ignorance.

Sri Aurobindo has given us the Hope that we can ascend and progress to the Divine Existence.

Our struggling ego cannot change the course….
For He who is grows manifest in the years
And the slow Godhead shut within the cell
Climbs from plasm to immortality.

Sri Aurobindo thus assures us that our journey is an ascension, a progress "from plasm to immortality."

Why Sri Aurobindo?

On this great opportunity today, on the birthday anniversary of Sri Aurobindo, on the august day of the fifteenth August, for all of us to remember Him and His Purpose and to renew our Aspiration and our Hope for the New Way, for the New Consciousness and Force and Being, for the Progress and Transformation towards the New Man, the New Race.

Sri Aurobindo is the Person, who has given the most hopeful meaning of the human existence, of the Creation. He has shown us the greatest Hope, the greatest Dream, of Joy and Bliss and the Widest Consciousness and of an eternal, immortal existence. He was not satisfied with Moksha or Nirvana, nor did He ask us to be so satisfied. We shall have to be transformed into an immortal Race, a new Race, who will not live in Darkness or in Ignorance or in Transience and Death.

Sri Aurobindo showed us the Way, the New Way , transcending and surpassing Moksha and Nirvaana. You need not leave the World, the Manifestation — for everything is He, the All-Existence. The Creation, the Manifestation, is His Will — can anyone go beyond His Will? For, in everyone, He is manifest and He is hidden.

Sri Aurobindo and The Mother [Mira Alfassa] have assured us of Their help on the Way. Has not He told us so in the following words?

And yet I know my footprints' track shall be
A pathway towards Immortality.

When one refers to Sri Aurobindo or His Collaborator, The Mother, Mirra Alfassa, one may directly or indirectly face the questions: Why Sri Aurobindo? What does Sri Aurobindo stand for? What is His message for us?

At times, the questions may not come to us directly in that manner, but during discussions or conversations, one finds that Sri Aurobindo and The Mother are referred to, but often with a lot of misunderstandings, as in the case of The Lives of Sri Aurobindo by Peter Heehs or in the case of The Failed Prophet, another derogatory book written by N. Nandhivarman on Sri Aurobindo. Throughout the world now, such cases are rare, but these two books have shown the depth of darkness possible in the human mind in understanding and knowing Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Time and the community, more or less open and devoted to Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, will definitely give the due and proper answer to these attempts of the Dark Forces! About Peter Heehs, I have commented in ASPIRATION [http://newreflexions.ning.com] as follows:

Having come to read and know all that is written by Heehs on Sri Aurobindo, I feel and understand that an anti-Divine force is active in and through him, and in course of time, he will be swept away by the current and force of Time into oblivion!

About The Failed prophet, my comments will be the same!

However, besides these rare people who like to live in Darkness, there are some others who have respect and reverence for Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, but their appreciation and understanding are insufficient and incomplete and sometimes incorrect and without much of depth. One such person is Rajneesh or Osho, who stated that Sri Aurobindo was a very great and rare scholar, but there was lack of Realization. Definitely, that was an expression of a sheer ignorance!

Often, persons who had earlier direct or indirect links or contacts with Sri Aurobindo failed to appreciate Him. I had a teacher in my college life — he had also had a deep and versatile knowledge in music and in order to learn instrumental music, I came in good contact with him. He was unmarried till the last. He was Satyen Chakravarty, son of someone, who was very close to Sri Aurobindo. He often spoke of Sri Aurobindo, whatever he came to know of Him. In 1959, I had the last meeting with him, as he questioned me, "If He is really a Divine Avatar, saying that through Supermind, Man will conquer Death, then why did He die? He really failed." Obviously, that was the last meeting. I tried to refute him, but he would not listen to me. So, I had to leave him, and never did I have any more of opportunity to meet him again.

So, some people are always there who has failed understand Sri Aurobindo and The Mother and they tried to describe Them through the language of their own darkness and Ignorance.

However, it is necessary for as many persons as possible to learn and know and ascertain what is the Purpose and the Way of which Sri Aurobindo spoken to us. And it is also equally necessary for us to know What Sri Aurobindo IS.

He has asked us to go within and find the Inner Being, the Inner Divine, the Psychic Being. He has told us to find also the deep-routed falsehood hiding in us and solve the riddle of existence.

I saw that a falsehood was planted deep
At the very root of things
Where the grey Sphinx guards God's riddle sleep
On the Dragon's outspread wings.

In order to conquer all Darkness for the progress and evolution of a New Race, Sri Aurobindo, in His unique Sadhana, had entered the worlds of Darkness and unconsciousness to bring the required Transformation.

I MADE an assignation with the Night;
In the abyss was fixed our rendezvous :
In my breast carrying God's deathless light
I came her dark and dangerous heart to woo.

He has asked us to find the secrets within and proceed towards the New Becoming. To show us the Way, Sri Aurobindo had to find out the Way himself, for it was an untrodden way, a New Way . He had to work hard, undertaking an untried spiritual research.

He who would bring the heavens here
Must descend himself into clay
And the burden of earthly nature bear
And tread the dolorous way.

And what did He tell us to do?

A voice cried, "Go where none have gone!
Dig deeper, deeper yet
Till thou reach the grim foundation stone
And knock at the keyless gate."

Sri Aurobindo was Himself an Adventure of Consciousness, as Satprem called Him. In the language of His own epic poem Savitri, He was a 'Voyager upon uncharted routes, fronting the danger of the Unknown and adventuring across enormous realms.'

A big change will come on earth — it has already started coming, since the 29^th February 1956, when the Supramental Consciousness descended on earth, as declared by The Mother.

Sri Aurobindo has said :

Often a lustrous inner dawn shall come
Lighting the chambers of the slumbering mind;
A sudden bliss shall run through every limb
And Nature with a mightier Presence fill.
Thus shall the earth open to divinity
And common natures feel the wide uplift,
Illumine common acts with the Spirit's ray
And meet the deity in common things.
Nature shall live to manifest secret God,
The Spirit shall take up the human play,
This earthly life become the life divine.

Of the Mission for which Sri Aurobindo and The Mother descended on earth, one can have a clear Idea from what Savitri has stated :

My soul and his indissolubly linked
In the one task for which our lives were born
To raise the world to God in deathless Light.
To bring God down to the world on earth
We came to change the earthly life to life divine.

Thus, They came to change the earthly life.

And with the Divine words that came from Sri Aurobindo, an attempt has been made for remembering and adoring Him on His birthday, the birthday of the Hope of Mankind, also for remembering and adoring The Mother.

Sri Aurobindo, as the world knows, was a philosopher par excellence, a poet par excellence, a rare and superb visionary of evolution. But that is not the complete truth about Him. Further, He has been described as the Hope of Man. And Satprem, a disciple of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, Mira Alfassa, has described Sri Aurobindo as the Adventure of Consciousness. He was not only an Adventurer of Consciousness, but Himself the Adventure.

Yes, He was an Explorer of Consciousness, and further, He was also the builder of the New World , basing on the New and a Higher Consciousness, the Supramental Consciousness, a much higher level of Consciousness, which was hitherto unmanifest, and which is discovered by Him. And He has shown us the Way, the Integral Way to the New Realisation, not of realising the Divine Consciousness and merging into It, transcending and leaving the Manifestation, the World and the Universe, forgetting the mankind and its past and present and future. He did not teach us to have Nirvana, or Moksha, or of reaching the Heaven and staying there forever hereafter. He did not ask us to return to the Source, to the Origin. He has given us a Way to discover and manifest and realise our own possibilities, our human and also our superhuman and divine possibilities, step by step. He tells us about transforming our individual existence and also the world, breaking all our personal and egoistic limits, becoming one with our earth, as vast as our earth. To divinise and supramentalise the world was ans is the Task he performed and asked us to perform.

As a philosopher, we find Him to be at the topmost level of Consciousness, denying none of the philosophical truths reached by the earlier philosophers, but by accepting and transcending and integrating them all in a new synthesis into one whole Truth.

As a poet, he shows us the Way to the Future Poetry, and His Poems were expressions of the Truth, which He saw and realised and lived, and which creations of highers planes of mind and Consciousness.

The Mother has said :

What Sri Aurobindo represents in the world's history is not a teaching, not even a revelation ; it is a decisive action, direct from the Supreme.

28. One called Napoleon a tyrant and imperial cut-throat; but I saw God armed striding through Europe.

Some people have spoken of the Antichrist. Especially, Michel de Nostradamus has spoken of three Antichrists: Napoleon, Hitler and one yet to be known as such. According to those who speak of the Antichrist, the term refers to one who is a very strong force, opposing and antagonistic to God — representing the anti-divine Force.

We find Sri Aurobindo's interpretation of the term as follows:
Antichrist in the Bible, the great antagonist of Christ, is expected to spread universal evil before the end of the world but finally to be conquered at Christ's second coming. [Glossary And Index of Proper Names in Sri Aurobindo's Works]

Some have said that Napoleon was 'a tyrant' and imperial cut-throat' — what Sri Aurobindo has mentioned here. To some, he was only a war-monger. And war is a big social calamity, resulting in gross bloodshed and death and massacre. It seemed to some that he was a force that was destructive and evil for the mankind.

In Their several statements, however, The Mother and Sri Aurobindo have referred to Hitler as an anti-divine force. But about Napoleon, Sri Aurobindo has stated differently:
I saw God armed striding through Europe.

And The Mother has said that wars were inevitable among the humans at a particular stage of their development and Evolution. War has been the history of mankind. From the very beginning of the human civilization, groups, bigger or smaller, have been warring against each other. Clans have been fighting battles. Nations have been fighting wars. And the Mankind have seen two World Wars. And there is the fear and the talk of the Third World War at any time. The World is ready for the next World War, sitting on the nuclear bombs!

The wars have been the expression of the lower vital nature and egoism, so very powerful in the mankind that we have been drawn towards the warring confrontations without any self-control, individually and as nations or groups. Wars were the result of confrontation of groups, of nations against each other.

Very often, what was destroyed by the wars was the past that supported the Tamasic way of life, the way of inertia, the way that stopped progress and supported the accumulations of the past that needed to be surpassed and destroyed. As The Mother puts it, wars "may serve to destroy a past that refuses to disappear though its time is over and they make room for new things."

Wars were also necessary for the protection of the righteous people, like the Pandavas, mentioned in the Mahabharata, who fought the war at Kurukshetra. AT Kurukshetra, the Pandavas were led by Sri Krishna against the Kauravas. The Mother has said: "Wars can, like Kurukshetra, be a way to rid the earth of a domineering or destructive race so that justice and right can reign."

The humanity has to evolve towards the growing Manifestation of the Supramental Consciousness on earth, towards the advent of the Supramental Race, the New Race, and in its evolutionary progress, it has to surpass all that becomes unnecessary, creating hurdles on the Way. There have come persons preaching peace and non-violence, but so long as Man continues to be ruled by the lower nature, war will be there: at least, mentally and materially, nations will be for war. Man has to grow and rise in Consciousness, and there should be one humanity, above barriers and boundaries.

As and when mankind will grow and rise towards and in and with the Supramental Consciousness, wars will no longer be necessary and there will be the possibility of and Hope for Peace.

The New Race 1

Should the human race continue for ever to be as it is now, or as it has been continuing to be, since the coming of the Homo Sapiens on earth?

Indeed, in culture and in civilization, Man is growing more and more, getting refined and trained and reformed more and more. He is growing thoughts and mental constructions and also in physical-vital-mental habits and activities. But internally — from the inner viewpoint — the progress is small.

Sri Aurobindo has said:

In a certain sense, we are nothing but a complex mass of mental, nervous and physical habits held together by a few ruling ideas, desires and associations — an amalgam of many small self-repeating forces, with a few major vibrations. [Synthesis of Yoga, Chapter 20]

To almost all human beings, 'unconscious' ego is the major truth, and their existence revolves around the ego. Ego shadows and covers the Soul within, and the cover of culture and civilization erects a beautiful and almost impenetrable construction around the Psychic hidden within, in such a way that it is imprisoned. And the lower vital and the gross physical further darkens the prison further.

We live, from the morning to the next morning, for satisfying our physical, vital and mental needs and cravings, following some opinions, some ideas, some limitations, some partial and limited understandings, without successfully trying to surpass our limitations, our shortcomings, our ignorance. We follow our political views and create enemies and enmity. We follow religions and create divisions and sub-divisions in mankind and fierce clashes and fights among the religious groups. Misunderstandings, enmity, intolerance, jealousy, apathy, hatred, envy, hostility, anger, cruelty, fierceness, pride, vanity, greed, lust, and the arrogance and importance of ego — these are the movements of the lower nature which has been predominant in man, individually and socially. These movements have been continuing in Man, since the inception of the human history. And all these are due to the animal background of Man.

However, in spite of all these weaknesses, Man has a yearning to live and manifest Truth, Wisdom, Love, Joy, Wideness, Freedom, Unselfishness, Compassion and Purity. And he has also a yearning for conquest of Ignorance, Darkness and Inertia, conquest of Lust, Greed and Anger, conquest of all hostility, enmity and cruelty. Man has a yearning for and an Aspiration for conquest of all these weaknesses and all these traits of the animal background. He aspires to touch, realize, live and manifest the Sublime influences which he meets sometimes, from the Highest Consciousness and Existence and from his own Innermost Being. He aspires to surpass himself and grow into a Higher Being.

That is because Man has a Divine possibility in him: to surpass the inherent animal nature in him and to manifest the innermost Divinity seated in him and to ascend to the Highest Divine Consciousness and Existence is the human Destiny. Man, as said by Sri Aurobindo, is a transitional being. He has to prepare and mould himself through a Sadhana, so that the Divine Possibility realizes Itself. Evolution progresses in Time and the present human manifestation is only a temporary phase, with a Golden Promise and Possibility.

Sri Aurobindo has said:

There are two main things to be secured as the foundations of sadhana -the opening of the psychic being and the realisation of the Self above. For the opening of the psychic being, concentration on the Mother and self-offering to her are the direct way for the self-realisation, peace and silence of the mind are the first condition. Afterwards one begins to feel release, freedom, wideness, to live in a consciousness silent, tranquil, untouched by any or all things, existing everywhere and in all, one with or united with the Divine. [Letters on Yoga]

The Mother is there to guide us ever. She has said:
In the depths of your consciousness is the psychic being, the temple of the Divine within you. This is the centre round which should come about the unification of all these divergent parts, all these contradictory movements of your being. Once you have got the consciousness of the psychic being and its aspiration, these doubts and difficulties can be destroyed. It takes more or less time, but you will surely succeed in the end. Once you have turned to the Divine, saying, "I want to be yours", and the Divine has said, "Yes", the whole world cannot keep you from it. When the central being has made its surrender, the chief difficulty has disappeared. The outer being is like a crust. In ordinary people the crust is so hard and thick that they are not so conscious of the Divine within them. If once, even for a moment only, the inner being has said, "I am here and I am yours", then it is as though a bridge has been built little by little the crust becomes thinner and thinner until the two parts are wholly joined and the inner and the outer become one.

So, Man has to prepare himself, by conquering all the lower animal traits in him. And he has to realize in himself the Divine seated in his innermost being. He has to unveil the Psychic Being — which is his real self. And he has to transform himself, his outer nature and personality, in accordance with the Psychic Consciousness and Light and Force. That is the first Step towards the New Race.

Undoubtedly, India is the oldest civilization that is still living. And it will live on, as the very essence of India’s message is to lead the World, lead the humanity towards the Supreme Truth, the Supreme Realization.

But what will lead the humanity and the World to the grand and brilliant Future is not the geographical India, nor the historical India, as it is known externally, but the very true inner Spirit of India.

India has the Message: Thou art That, tattvamasi. The Divine — Sat-chit-ananda [Sachchidananda], Existence-Consciousness-Bliss — is within each of us, the human beings. Indeed, the Divine is everywhere, in all things. All that is, is God. Sarvam khalvidam brahma. The Divine is the only thing that exists, in essence and That has become the Many. He is the Supreme and He (or She, as you like it) is in all. He is in all and He is All. These are not merely words or simple ideas, but the expressions of Truth.

But it is a latent Truth. In the present level of Consciousness the human beings are in, this Idea may seem to be a Hope only, or a lofty Imagination, or a Dream, or for some, a “so-called” Truth, something, practically “meaningless”. And to some, where the height and depth of imagination and thinking is not sufficient and who live only amid what senses give us, this may even seem to be some sort of joke. Indeed, I received such a comment in some of my writings!

The Task before each human being, truly, is to realize this Truth, within his or her inner Consciousness, in a Consciousness deeper than our presently active consciousness, within the heart-centre (of course, not the physical heart).

That is the Message, or the beginning of the Message, that India is to give the World.

Tattvamasi or Thou art That is Vedic Truth. And that is also the Message of Sri Aurobindo. The Vedic truth is there on earth since, at least, last twelve thousand years, as some scholars have said. It may even be earlier.

The Idea of “Tattvamasi” is in India since then, and some persons have lived to realize this Truth, but they have taken the Path of Moksha. For some, the Realization was of a “Nothing” that is beyond all and they have taught was about Nirvāna.

But the majority of the people lived and remained in the ordinary external consciousness, and even if some of them had borne with them the Idea of “Tattvamasi”, they did not do much to realize the Truth and progress with it. There were some spiritual Masters who tried their best to lead the people to the Realization, but the people remained in semi-darkness, as usual.

But the ordinary human consciousness has continued to live with Mind, partly enlightened with Reason and Ethics and half-open Love, and they continued to live with animal passions and ignorance and upheavals and activities moved by blind forces.

Human Aspiration, in spite of all the Ignorance and Darkness and Denseness, cannot be satisfied fully with the opening of the Psychic Being. Of course, the Psychic Opening is a must for the human beings. That is the Gate of the Divine Becoming. But that is not all. Man has to go further and transmute his nature, following the Nature’s deepest and highest indications and urges, which follow the Will of the Supreme towards His own Manifestations — on the Way of the Next Evolution. The Psychic is then liberated from the Darkness and Denseness and Inertia and Ignorance, but those will still continue in the human being, in the human body and the lower vital and the ignorant mind, even after the Psychic Opening! Sadhana or spiritual discipline may have a great control and mastery over all these elements in the human existence, but they remain as they originally are. The body must be purified and liberated from Tamas; the vital being must be purified and liberated from Tamas and Rajas; the human mind should not only be purified and protected from Tamas and Rajas, but must also be transmuted to go beyond all its present limitations and blind habits, including the limitations of thought and reason. The form of body-life-mind must be freed from Ego and its tentacles and must be attuned to the Psychic Consciousness and transmuted by Its Consciousness and Light and Force and Joy.

According to Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, Moksha or Nirvana is not the Task before us, though that may come on our way. We need not or should not return to the Origin. Nor should we continue as the ordinary human beings, immersed in the clay and mud of Darkness, Ignorance, Inertia, in the blind animal nature and activities, in the lower vital passions and movements, in the atmosphere of jealousy, hatred, betrayal, enmity, clashes and feuds. Man has a long march ahead to be taken up, so that the new Supramental Race reigns upon earth. The Goal, as taught by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, is to evolve into a New Being, the Supramental Being, as the New Consciousness, the Supramental Consciousness, has already descended on earth and has been active by now.

The human beings have emerged with the mental consciousness and he ought to realize and live and manifest the higher realms of the principle of Mind, from the plane of the Higher Mind to the highest mental principle of the Overmind. And then, he has to progressively march ahead towards the Supramental.

In the Way of living, as taught by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, the Realization of the Psychic being is the beginning, but that is not the end. As it has been said, Man has to surpass himself, but not into Moksha or Nirvana, not into the Origin that was there before the beginning of the evolutionary process of becoming. As Sri Aurobindo has said, Man is transitional being. He is neither the Goal nor the highest height of Evolution. Evolution began with the emergence of Matter and will continue till the Sachchidananda, Existence-Consciousness-Bliss, the Supreme, manifests itself physically into a collectivity of the Divine Beings, into the Divine Race, the New Race.

After the Realization of the Psychic, after the Realization that I am He, Man has to change his Mind and Life and Body with the Psychic Light and Consciousness and Force. Not only he has to transmute his outer mind and life and body, but also the inner mind and life and body shall have to be changed. This is what Sri Aurobindo labels as the Psychic Transformation, which is the first step of the Triple Transformation needed for the Ascent of Man into the Supramental Being.

As it has said earlier, after the Psychic Transformation, there begins the journey through the different levels of the principle of Mind — the Higher Mind, the Illumined Mind, the Intuitive Mind and the Overmind. Man has to ascend these heights of the higher levels of Mind, which far above the present ordinary human mind.

However, thereafter, Man has to surpass the principle of Mind altogether and ascend to the still higher realm of Consciousness and Force, the Supermind. Having ascended the Supramental Consciousness, Man reaches the final stage of his Journey, whereby he can fulfill the Task of the Supernature in the new and the next step of Evolution on earth.

Remembering The Mother

Sri Aurobindo has said of The Mother:

The One whom we adore as the Mother is the divine Conscious Force that dominates all existence, one and yet many-sided that to follow her movement is impossible even for the quickest mind and for the freest and most vast intelligence.

The Supreme Consciousness, Parama, and The Supreme Conscious Force, Parashakti, both came to this our Earth, as human beings, so that we, the

human beings, can yearn and long and hope for becoming divine beings, the supramental beings, in due course of Time.

Turagāngsu sahasrabhāsurasya

Pravibhāgam kurutām dvidheha ko<vā

Avibhaktamapi sthitam dwirupam

Jagate tat paramam parah pareti. [Kapali Shastriar]

[Here, who indeed can divide into two the One That is gloriously dazzling with His thousand steed of rays? That Supreme is indeed indivisible, but He has appeared in two forms for this Universe, as Para and Parā.]

And They said that the Time has already come. They arrived at a juncture of the Evolutionary process on earth, at a time when Nature — the Supernature — felt the need of going beyond the human race.

Man, owing to his limitations, imperfections, failures and shortcomings, needs be surpassed. He has to surpass himself towards a higher and diviner becoming. Man has the seeking, the Aspiration, the Hope and the possibilities to become a higher and diviner being — though he has all the limits and imperfections in him. Ignorance and Darkness are there in him. Most often he acts for divisions and darkness and ignorant movements and forces! But still, he has the Hope, the possibilities.

Sri Aurobindo has said that Man is a transitional being — he is a being who is a temporary and a transitional appearance on the Way of the coming Supramental Race — a race which will not be based on death, division, darkness and Ignorance like Man.

And the New Race will come through the human beings — through their transformation, of course, if they are ready.

The Mother has said us :

The choice is imperative — Truth or Abyss.

We shall have to follow and accept Truth, the truth of the Supramental becoming. And we shall have to transform ourselves towards the Supramental becoming. Or else, the Supernature will surpass us, by ignoring us!

Let us remember The Mother on Her birthday anniversary today.

As we know, the 21st day of February 2010 is the 132nd birthday anniversary of The Mother, Mira Alfassa, the spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo.

The Ultimate Reality is the Infinite and One Existence-Consciousness-Bliss. He is the Supreme Divine, the One, Indivisible, Infinite and Pure, who has three aspects, the Transcendental, the Universal and the Individual. In the Transcendental mode, He is the Source of — and also above — all manifestation, all the Universes, all the worlds. As the Supreme, He is the eternal consciousness, above all Time and Space. The Supreme Divine is the Existence-Consciousness-Bliss, as it is already told. He is. He is Existence, eternal existence, and can even become Non-Existence, beyond the apprehension of any manifested existence. In the Universal mode, he is one with the Universes, though He is above them and is their Creator.

As the Supreme, who is both Impersonal and Personal, He is the Source of all that is, of the this Universe, or rather the Universes. He has no form, no shape, and simultaneously, He is the Source and Creator of all forms and shapes. He has become all this Universe, or rather all these universes. He is the Manifestation and the One who manifests. It is His Will that manifests and is manifested. The entire Manifestation is He, and it is His Leela, Play. He is both beyond it, and within it, and in each atom, in each living being. And He is also the Individual, Personal God. All the Avatars are but His Individual Manifestations.

The Supreme is with His Creative Force, the Mahashakti, whom we call the Divine Mother. They are One and Indivisible, and yet They are Two in Manifestation and even above Manifestation.

The Mother also has the three aspects, just as the Supreme: transcendental, universal and the individual.

Vasudhām yadi sā jadatvagarte

vinimagnām na vishankate sma gantum

[If She, The Mother, had no hesitation to go the Earth, plunged in the depth of Inconscience, He too, the self-born Supreme himself certainly comes with The Mother.]

Both of Them have come to save this Earth of ours that is plunged in Ignorance, Inconscience and darkness. Their aim is to heighten and transform the earthly existence towards Light and Joy and the Divine Life.

Sri Aurobindo has also said :

Her embodiment is a chance for the earth-consciousness to receive the Supramental into it and to undergo first the transformation necessary for that to be possible.

That is why She is so valuable for the mankind and for the earth. "She is the golden bridge ...," says Sri Aurobindo in Savitri. She is the Force that enables Man and the earth to leap beyond and pass over the gulf of difference between Mind and the Supramental Consciousness, between Darkness and Ignorance and Falsehood on the one hand and on the other hand Light and Wisdom and Truth.

She is the golden bridge, the wonderful fire.
The luminous heart of the Unknown is she,
A power of silence in the depths of God;
She is the Force, the inevitable Word,.....
To heal with her feet the aching throb of life
And break the seals on the dim soul of man
And kindle her fire in the closed heart of things.

The Mother says :

Throughout all this life, knowingly or unknowingly, I have been what the Lord wanted me to be, I have done what the Lord wanted me to do, I have done what the Lord wanted me to do. That alone matters.

She has also said :

Since, the beginning of the earth, wherever and whenever there was the possibility of manifesting a ray of Consciousness, I was there.

And She has also shown us the Way, the most sublime Way of the Child in us, in all of us:

You have to aspire, you have to reject; but the best is if you can keep me in your heart, if you love me, then you will have to do nothing. I shall do all for you.

That is the best Way.

And let us remember always what She has told us to march ahead towards the Goal, towards The New World:

Let us advance always, without stopping, towards an always more complete manifestation, an always more complete and higher consciousness.

Sri Aurobindo has told:

The Mother not only governs all from above but she descends into this lesser triple universe. Impersonally, all things here, even the movements of the Ignorance, are herself in veiled power and her creations in diminished substance, her Nature-Body and Nature-force, and they exist because, moved by the mysterious fiat of the Supreme to work out something that was there in the possibilities of the Infinite, she has consented to the great sacrifice and has put on like a mask the soul and forms of the Ignorance. But personally, too, she has stooped to descend here into the Darkness that she may lead it to the Light, into the Falsehood and Error that she may convert it to the Truth, into this Death that she convert it to godlike Life, into this world-pain and its obstinate sorrow and suffering that she may end it in the transforming ecstacy of her sublime Ananda. In her deep and great love for her children she has consented to put on herself the cloak of this obscurity, condescended to bear the attacks and torturing influences of the powers of the Darkness and the Falsehood, borne to pass through the portals of the birth that is a death, taken upon herself the pangs and sorrows and sufferings of the creation, since it seemed that thus alone could it be lifted to the Light and Joy and Truth and eternal Life. This is the great sacrifice called sometimes the sacrifice of the Purusha, but much more deeply the holocaust of Prakriti, the sacrifice of the Divine Mother.

The Mother told us about Sri Aurobindo :

Sri Aurobindo came on earth from the Supreme to announce the manifestation of a new race and a new world, the Supramental.

She also said about Sri Aurobindo :

Man is the creation of yesterday. Sri Aurobindo came to announce the creation of tomorrow : the coming of the supramental being.

And for this advent of the supramental being, Sri Aurobindo says that Man has to ascend from Mind to various higher levels of Mind, and then to the Supermind. Man has to go through the ways of Transformation. And when the human aspiration rises to a height, then only Supermind can be approached.

The Mother Mira, who manifested the Mahashakti, was the Person who caused the Descent of the Supramental Principle on earth on the 29th February 1956. The purpose of this Supramental Descent was to make possible the ascending journey of Man to Supermanhood.

The Task before us

The Task before us is to change the world — from the imperfect mental world to the Supramental World of Perfection, the New World.

But why? And how?

Why:

Some fifty thousand to more than a million years back, the early human beings started their journey on earth, definitely with hopes for Joy and Bliss, for satisfaction and fulfilment, for conquering diseases and Death, with inquisition and thirst for knowledge in their eyes and their fresh undisturbed intelligence. They marched onwards and created civilizations and cultures, created Arts and Literature and Poetry and Music, created the Society and all the social norms and rules and paraphernalia. Even they tried to solve all the problems and difficulties of life.

But in their attempts for doing so, they now find themselves in a world, which they have almost completely spoiled. Now, men and women and their world are ruled and conquered by darkness and ignorance, by sorrows and sufferings, by chaos and disorder, by battles and warfare and destructions, genocides and mass-murders, by incurable mental and physical ailments and diseases and untimely deaths, in spite of all their wisdom and knowledge, all their feasts and festivals and parties and merry-makings, all the assortments and arrangements of enjoyment and pleasure, in spite of all their prosperities and riches, in spite of all their medical and scientific researches and discoveries and preparations, in spite of all religions and worships, in spite of all their peace talks and preaching of Ahimsa or non-violence, in spite of all their civilizations and progresses. Mankind has lost all their hopes and aspirations, all their spontaneous inborn simplicity and clarity and peace.

So, we have to change the world.

And how?

We will change the world, never by preaching this and that religion. They are already fighting against each other for centuries. I do not mean to attack any religion; Persons who represented the Supreme Consciousness initiated them all. But we have added so much of falsehood, doubts, hatred, clashes and even bloodsheds into them, that they can seldom lead us to our Goal.

We will bring the change never by political changes and revolutions, by change of Governments or creating League of Nations or commonwealths or UNOs, however noble and lofty may be the Ideas behind.

We will make the change, never by changing external activities or habits of society or of life, not by keeping or shaving beards or hairs, not by changing dresses, not by changing political parties or social groups, or by changing religions.

Never can we reach the Goal by trying to change others in a prototype, as the Communists tried and failed, or by trying to criticize others or by trying to find faults with others, NOT by declaring that we alone are the conveyors of Truth, and others are of Untruth. I will come to the issue of Truth or Untruth later.

We are to change ourselves, first.

Each of us is to change himself or herself..

If we prescribe to find the Ego and hunt it, and we really then go after the Ego, we will NEVER find it. Within there is Darkness, and the Ego is reigning there. While going after Ego, we will be lost in the Darkness. We shall follow the Light. We shall seek and find the Light within.

We are all moving towards the New Horizon, towards the New World, the New Creation — all human beings are so moving, knowingly or unknowingly. Some are marching ahead, some are moving slowly, some are loitering and gossipping and some are sleeping in Tamas, but all are on the Way.

Sri Aurobindo has said : When we have passed beyond humanity, then we shall be the Man.

In the New Horizing, the Supramental Sun has been arising, and it is now the Pre-Dawn time. And we are listening to the dawn chorus chanting. The voices of the Aspirants are being heard throughout the world.

As Sri Aurobindo has said, Man is a transitional being. When the earth was inhabited only by the animals, Man came into being, ushering in the next step on Earth, the step of Mind and Reason. The Earth itself is a process of Evolution; Matter — which involves the Sachchidananda, the Existence-Consciousness-Bliss, the Original Supreme Consciousness — formed this Earth, amid all the stars and the Sun and the planets, and it began evolving for the Manifestation of the Supreme Consciousness, step by step. Man emerged, the Neanderthal Man grew into the civilized Man of the twentyfirst century and still the Evolution has continued.. The marching ahead continues and it shall continue till Man grows into a Superman, and then into the Supramental Being — and the Evolution shall continue even beyond.

Satprem, while writing an Introduction to Mother's Agenda, has spoken of the New Man, of the Supramental Being:

This AGENDA ... One day, another species among men will pore over this fabulous document as over the tumultuous drama that must have surrounded the birth of the first man among the hostile hordes of a great, delirious Paleozoic. A first man is the dangerous contradiction of a certain simian logic, a threat to the established order that so genteelly ran about amid the high, indefeasible ferns - and to begin with, it does not even know that it is a man. It wonders, indeed, what it is. Even to itself it is strange, distressing. It does not even know how to climb trees any longer in its usual way - and it is terribly disturbing for all those who still climb trees in the old, millennial way. Perhaps it is even a heresy. Unless it is some cerebral disorder? A first man in his little clearing had to have a great deal of courage. Even this little clearing was no longer so sure. A first man is a perpetual question. What am I, then, in the midst of all that? And where is my law? What is the law? And what if there were no more laws? ... It is terrifying. Mathematics - out of order. Astronomy and biology, too, are beginning to respond to mysterious influences. A tiny point huddled in the center of the world's great clearing. But what is all this, what if I were 'mad'? And then, claws all around, a lot of claws against this uncommon creature. A first man ... is very much alone. He is quite unbearable for the pre-human 'reason.' And the surrounding tribes growled like red monkies in the twilight of Guiana.

One day, we were like this first man in the great, stridulant night of the Oyapock. Our heart was beating with the rediscovery of a very ancient mystery - suddenly, it was absolutely new to be a man amidst the diorite cascades and the pretty red and black coral snakes slithering beneath the leaves. It was even more extraordinary to be a man than our old confirmed tribes, with their infallible equations and imprescriptible biologies, could ever have dreamed. It was an absolutely uncertain 'quantum' that delightfully eluded whatever one thought of it, including perhaps what even the scholars thought of it. It flowed otherwise, it felt otherwise. It lived in a kind of flawless continuity with the sap of the giant balata trees, the cry of the macaws and the scintillating water of a little fountain. It 'understood' in a very different way. To understand was to be in everything. Just a quiver, and one was in the skin of a little iguana in distress. The skin of the world was very vast. To be a man after rediscovering a million years was mysteriously like being something still other than man, a strange, unfinished possibility that could also be all kinds of other things. It was not in the dictionary, it was fluid and boundless - it had become a man through habit, but in truth, it was formidably virgin, as if all the old laws belonged to laggard barbarians. Then other moons began whirring through the skies to the cry of macaws at sunset, another rhythm was born that was strangely in tune with the rhythm of all, making one single flow of the world, and there we went, lightly, as if the body had never had any weight other than that of our human thought; and the stars were so near, even the giant airplanes roaring overhead seemed vain artifices beneath smiling galaxies. A man was the overwhelming Possible. He was even the great discoverer of the Possible. Never had this precarious invention had any other aim through millions of species than to discover that which surpassed his own species, perhaps the means to change his species - a light and lawless species. After rediscovering a million years in the great, rhythmic night, a man was still something to be invented. It was the invention of himself, where all was not yet said and done. However, as we find, Man is, mainly and in majority, still far away from the Divine Possibility : Man is greatly involved in egoism, in Tamas, in vital and mental limitations and obstructions. Sometimes, even if and even when Man delves in and professes higher thinking and spirituality and a further evolution beyond humanity, he is still living and moving with a predominantly active lower nature. The human beings are more or less engrossed in limited or partial ideas, mental opinions, preferences, ignorant habits and mental constructions centered around lower vital nature, which has enslaved him with pride, arrogance, enmity, hostility, jealousy, envy, greed, cravings, passions,selfishness, egoism. Man is still living with ignorance, doubt, stupidity, falsehood, laziness, and Tamas.. If somewhere there is an endeavour for growing or creating something noble and great and aspiring for a higher possibility, forming a collectivity for moving forward, then it may also be found that from several corners attacks are creeping in, overtly or covertly, vehemently or stealthily, from the lower nature full of darkness and ignorance. Ego becomes the main force in Man, along with all narrowness, all crookedness, all poisonous divisions, tending to pull down all that great and noble in Man.

The change, as some may think, is not at all easy.

The change I am speaking of is not easy. Had it been easy, it would not have delayed by 50,000 years. All the religions, all the lofty social endeavours, including the French revolution or the Marxist revolution in Russia, have failed to change the human nature from what it is practically and what it should be. That is because the matter is very very difficult. Why difficult? Because we are insincere, egoistic, driven intolerance and hatred and animal enmity and anger, and above all we fail to know and understand Truth in its entirety.

The change needs a sincere and an undefeated ceaseless sadhana.

O thou who climbest to man from the dull stone,
Face now the miracle summits still unwon.

That is the Task before us. For, that is the Truth. The Spirit, involved in the Stone that has become Man, has to evolve further and manifest Itself.

The Mother has prayed before the Supreme :

Lord, we are upon earth to accomplish Thy work of transformation. It is our sole will, our sole preoccupation. Grant that it may be also our sole occupation and that all our actions may help us towards this single goal.

But in Evolution, the One willed to become the Many.

"It is the Will of the Supreme that created the Manifestation. In words, it may be said that he thought : "Ekoham, bahu syama." [ I am alone, and shall become many.] When the Existence-Consciousness became many, countless many, and each of the many is a Soul.

"A soul, or the atman in Sanskrit, is a part and portion of the Supreme Consciousness, the Divine — a part who is one with the Whole, who can be the Whole also, who can unite with the Whole.

The Divine began His return March and has reached the stage of the Human. Now the Human has to collaborate with the Divine to manifest the Divine in Many as the Supramental Race.

Ignorance and Darkness and diseases and Death have to conquered, as those belong to the falsehood. That is the Will of the Divine.

The Mother had prayed :

The hour has come when a choice has to be made, radical and definitive. Lord, give us the strength to reject falsehood and emerge in Thy truth, pure and worthy of Thy victory….

The Mother has further said:

On the 1^st January 1967, The Mother gave us the Message :

Men, countries, continents!
The choice is imperative:
Truth or the abyss.

The Mother has further said:

The message is only for those who are still asleep and quite satisfied with their sleep.

We find that still the majority of the humankind is asleep, asleep in darkness and ignorance with all satisfaction.

If we accept the Truth, we are opening the gates of great possibilities. The Mother says : This wonderful world of delight waiting at our gates for our call, to come down upon earth…

The Luminous Future

More than seventy-five years back, The Mother gave us a Call:

"Leaving the past far behind us, let us run towards a luminous future."

The luminous future was not only a dream, not only a hope : though the words created some aspiring dreams in some people and had arisen some hopes, some inspired hopes in some people. It was a direction given by The Mother to the human race. We were asked to transcend our past and run towards the luminous certitude in Future.

The Future of the earth will certainly be luminous — whether we believe it or not, whether we understand it or not, it is a certainty. The future of mankind is surely to be of a great spiritual, or rather, integral possibility. Beyond his imperfections, his present failures and follies, his succumbing to lust, anger, greed, hatred, jealousy and envy, to ignorance and hatred and darkness, to divisions and narrowness and mutual confronts and bloody warfare, to destructions and inimical activities, to diseases and death — beyond all these shortcomings, beyond all the records of his violent and ignorant history, he has to rise to a Divine possibility. As Man — the evolving Man — rose out of the Ape, the New Man will arise out of the half-conscious, half-inspired, imperfect animal man, fulfilling all the Hopes and Dreams Man has within him throughout the past millennia. The New Man, to be specific with the Words used by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, the Gnostic Man or the Superman, the Supramental Race will rise out of the present Man with the half-conscious nature.

Then shall the embodied being live as one
Who is a thought, a will of the Divine,
A mask or robe of his divinity,
An instrument and partner of his Force,
A point or line drawn in the infinite,
A manifest of the Imperishable.
The supermind shall be his nature's fount,
The Eternal's truth shall mould his thoughts and acts,
The Eternal's truth shall be his light and guide.
All then shall change, a magic order come
Overtopping this mechanical universe.

In spite of all our heavy and dark and ignorant past, of our animal origin and animal past, we have in us the Blessings of a Mind and, above all, the blessings of the psychic being within each of us — the human beings. The human mind, with its central power of reason, may not reach Perfection or even a Perfect Conclusion by itself — but definitely it has raised us from the aboriginal stage of existence to the present stage of civilization, when the World is becoming One, when the mankind is becoming One, when we have far-reaching gems and treasures of philosophy and science and logic, of arts and culture and civilization. Mind has helped us to search and try — but we are not yet able to reach the Final Truth by the present state of our Mind.

The psychic being is within us — as revealed to us by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Previous Seers and Teachers and Philosophers have told us of the Soul — the Sankhya philosophy of India has spoken of the plurality of the Souls. But the Realization of the Soul or of Brahman, the Ultimate Existence that is the Source and the Origin, has prompted us to lead to Moksha or to Nirvana or to the distant Heaven. The Goal was to go back to the Origin, a non-cooperation with the Creative Force of the Supernature, which is now preparing to create the higher beings out of the human beings through Evolution.

But Sri Aurobindo and The Mother have said that Time has already come, when the Goal will be the Transformation of the Earth — along the Transformation of the human race. No more of Moksha, no more of Nirvana, no more of going back to the joyous Heaven: the Earth will be transformed.

The Mother and Sri Aurobindo came to change this Earth of darkness and death into an Abode of the Divine Life.

To raise the world to God in deathless Light,
To bring God down to the world on earth we came,
To change the earthly life to life divine.
[Savitr: Bk XI, Co I]

The psychic being has to be unveiled by the Seeker — in order to seek the Light of the Supramental Consciousness and Force, which will change the human mind into the Mind of Light. And as some of us know, The Mother has already brought down the Supermind on the 29^th day of February 1956. That is, indeed, one of the greatest Work done for the humankind, for the fulfillment of the Aim of the Supernature, for the fulfillment of the Will of the Supreme Divine.

Nature shall live to manifest secret God,
The Spirit shall take up the human play,
This earthly life become the life divine.
[Savitr: Bk XI, Co I]

The Goal is now before us. The Way is open before us. The Help from the Supramental is now always ready. The Blessings of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo are always there — and the conditions are made ready. Only we shall have to march, taking our individual initiative.

But are we sincere? Are we ready? The Mother once asked the mankind : Are you ready? Again, She forewarned us: The Choice is imperative: Truth or Abyss.

We shall have to reach the Luminous Future — otherwise, the consequence for us, the humans, will be the Abyss — the destructive Darkness.

Let us not be hopeless. Let us fear that the Abyss is a certainty. That will be the possibility only when the mankind will refuse the Supramental hope and possibility. Sri Aurobindo has assured us in Savitri that some seekers will receive the Glory of the Supramental possibilities.

Some shall be made the glory's receptacles
And vehicles of the Eternal's luminous power.
These are the high forerunners, the heads of Time,
The great deliverers of earth-bound mind,
The high transfigurers of human clay,
The first-born of a new supernal race.

A few persons will certainly walk along the Path of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo and reach the Light of the Supramental Sun.

A few can climb to an unperishing sun,
Or live on the edges of the mystic moon
And channel to earth-mind the wizard ray.

Let us have the flame of Hope burning ever in us, for Sri Aurobindo has told us :

Even if the struggling world is left outside
One man's perfection still can save the world.
There is won a new proximity to the skies,
A first betrothal of the Earth to Heaven,
A deep concordat between Truth and Life:
A camp of God is pitched in human time.

27. God is a great and cruel Torturer because He loves. You do not understand this, because you have not seen and played with Krishna.

According to Sri Aurobindo, The Divine has three aspects: Transcendental, Universal and Individual. The Original Supreme, beyond all Manifestation, is the Transcendental aspect of the Divine. Pure Existence — to be more exact, Existence-Consciousness-Bliss i.e. Sat-Chit- Ananda — is the Transcendental aspect. It is Existence by Itself and stands alone, though really It is beyond all manifestation and also includes all that is manifested.

In the Individual aspect, the Transcendental Divine links Himself with the Universal Manifestation. The Individual is the link between the Transcendental and the Universal.

All that is manifested is the expression and creation of the Universal aspect of the Divine. The Divine is immanently present in each particle, each atom the Universe manifested. The entire Manifestation is the Divine.

He sleeps in the atom and the burning star,
He sleeps in man and god and beast and stone:
Because he is there the Inconscient does its work,
Because he is there the world forgets to die.
He is the centre of the circle of God,
He the circumference of Nature's run.

Krishna is the Immanent Divine, as said by The Mother. The entire Creation is His play, the play of the Eternal Divine, who is the Player along with all His playmates. He Himself is the Play, which is full of Joy and Love. He is the Expression of Ananda and Love of the Supreme. So, anyone who knows Krishna is His playmate and is one with Him. Krishna is the Symbol of the aspect of the Supreme Divine that stands for Joy and Love. Anyone who realizes the Divine, who reaches Truth beyond Mind, shall and can also realize that that he or she is a playmate of the Supreme Player.

To find and realize Krishna is to realize within us That which is always residing within us as the Inner Divine. To play with Krishna is to realize the Self. When one realizes the Divine, one finds oneself as a playmate of the Divine and one finds also that the world is only a play, a game — a Leela — of the Divine.

On earth, people find sufferings, woes, sorrows, pain and torture. So long as we limit ourselves with the ordinary consciousness, with the utterly limited observation and interest and attention, we find sufferings, we undergo pain and torture and sorrows. In our everyday life, we find this. Because of our ego, our attachments, our self-centered understanding and preferences, because of our limited involvements and limited scope, we face sorrows and unhappiness and failure, we undergo difficulties and sufferings. We then call the Divine the Torturer.

That is all because we live in Falsehood, because we live with a half-conscious existence. Hence, whatever may seem to our ordinary sense and understanding to be torture and a cruelty, that gets changed when one realizes the Divine; the pain and torture and cruelty are no more there — and there is only Joy, unlimited Joy, and then there is only the Love of the Divine, the unlimited Love. The question of cruelty and torture are no more there.

Even after the Divine Realization, one may transform or change one's external mode of consciousness and may keep in a part of his being and consciousness the ordinary perception and sense and understanding of the creation and the happenings. As long as one continues to live in and dwell with the ordinary consciousness, one may continue to find experience whatever may seem to be the cruelty and the torture.

But whenever one goes beyond Mind into the Higher Consciousness, one finds Joy and Love — for, one then sees the Goal and the Luminous Future and the Result intended by the Divine.

And the Future and the Result and the Goal is one of Joy and Love — the elements of sufferings and sorrows ands pain are no more there, not to be there anymore. The New World of the Luminous Future is one of Joy and Bliss, of endless Ananda, of victory and success in journey towards the New Supramental Becoming.

We should then become playmates of the Divine. Life will then have a different meaning for us and give us Joy and Happiness and fulfillment and the real Progress. The Divine will no more appear to us to be a Torturer. We will find then the Divine of Joy and Love.

The Known released him from its limiting chain;
He knocked at the doors of the Unknowable.
Thence gazing with an immeasurable outlook
One with self's inlook into its own pure vasts,
He saw the splendour of the spirit's realms,
The greatness and wonder of its boundless works,
The power and passion leaping from its calm,
The rapture of its movement and its rest,
And its fire-sweet miracle of transcendent life,
The million-pointing undivided grasp
Of its vision of one same stupendous All,
Its inexhaustible acts in a timeless Time,
A space that is its own infinity.
A glorious multiple of one radiant Self,
Answering to joy with joy, to love with love,
All there were moving mansions of God-bliss;
Eternal and unique they lived the One.
There forces are great outbursts of God's truth
And objects are its pure spiritual shapes;
Spirit no more is hid from its own view,
All sentience is a sea of happiness
And all creation is an act of light.

The Mother has given us a Ray of Hope:

"But a day will come when this apparent suffering will no longer be required to stimulate the advance and when progress can be more and more in harmony and delight."

26. Sir Philip Sidney said of the criminal led out to be hanged, "There, but for the grace of God, goes Sir Philip Sidney." Wiser, had he said, "There, by the grace of God, goes Sir Philip Sidney."

[Sri Aurobindo: Thoughts and Aphorisms]

Sir Philip Sidney was a successful statesman and a poet, and yet he was a man of humility. He was famous for his humble nature. Once, when he saw a criminal when he was going to be hanged, he expressed: "There, but for the Grace of God, goes Sir Philips Sydney."

As The Mother has interpreted, Sir Philip Sidney had expressed that he could have been at the place of the criminal to be hanged, but for the Grace of God, that did not so happen. What Sri Aurobindo states here, according to The Mother, is that Sir Philip Sidney would have been wiser, if he would have then said that by the Grace of God, he could have been the said criminal.

Sri Aurobindo is expressing here that whatever happens, it happens by the Grace of God. The Grace of God is behind all happenings, whether it seems to be beneficial or catastrophic. If some happening seems to be catastrophic, it will be then creating some opportunity in future which will prove to be beneficial; for, the World is marching ahead towards a Great Future, a luminous Future, which will definitely be an expression of Truth, Beauty, Goodness and Joy, of satyam-shivam-sundaram, of Ananda.

The Mother has inspired us: "Leaving the past far behind us, let us run towards a luminous future."

The Mother has further said: "For it is only our shortsightedness, our too limited perception and our misguided sensations that, for us, change into suffering what is a possibility and an opportunity for progress."

Some happening may appear to us to be cause of sufferings, but that may create for us some hope and possibility some opportunity for the better and greater Future, for progress towards the luminous Future towards the New World, the New Creation.

The humankind, which is evolving, is moving towards a Luminous Future, as The Mother says. And in the Luminous Future, the Supramental Consciousness shall reign over this Earth.

Nature shall live to manifest secret God,
The Spirit shall take up the human play,
This earthly life become the life divine.

Sri Aurobindo and The Mother came upon this Earth in order to lead us all to the next step of Evolution — from Man to Superman. To manifest the Supramental Consciousness and Force upon earth is the Divine Will and the purpose of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother — the Dual Power. The mortal human being will be transformed into the superman —into the supramental being.

The incarnate dual Power shall open God's door,
Eternal supermind touch earthly Time.
The superman shall wake in mortal man
And manifest the hidden demigod
Or grow into the God-Light and God-Force
Revealing the secret deity in the cave.

Sri Aurobindo has expressed the purpose of Their coming as follows:

To raise the world to God in deathless Light,
To bring God down to the world on earth we came,
To change the earthly life to life divine.
[Savitr: Bk XI, Co I]

According to Sri Aurobindo,

Earth is the chosen place of mightiest souls;
Earth is the heroic spirit's battlefield,…
[Savitr: Bk XI, Co I]

And Sri Aurobindo has also given us the call :

Ascend, O soul, into thy timeless self;
Choose destiny's curve and stamp thy will on Time.

Thoughts and Aphorisms 25

25. When I see others suffer, I feel that I am unfortunate, but the wisdom that is not mine, sees the good that is coming and approves.

[Sri Aurobindo: Thoughts and Aphorisms]

When others are suffering, one may feel that one is unfortunate, because one has to see and experience others' sufferings. That may be the example of a kind heart, where there is sympathy and feeling for others. But it does not have the touch of a Higher Wisdom.

It is the Wisdom of the Supreme, which a person will have after he goes beyond Ignorance and has the Divine Realization. When one has this Wisdom, one can see the Past, the Present and the Future, as one is in touch with the Supreme Consciousness. And in that Wisdom, one finds that all that happens is for the Good, as the world is marching ahead towards Perfection.

In this connection, The Mother has said that because of our shortsightedness, limited perceptions and misguided sensations, whatever is a possibility and an opportunity for progress gets changed into suffering. And when we cooperate with whatever is happening, there is no more of suffering.

Why do the humans suffer?

Because, they have forgotten and lost their Divine origin. They have, individually and collectively, lost their contact and connection with the Supreme Consciousness, of which they are portions. They have lost their higher Consciousness and their capacities and capabilities, their Joy and Omniscience and Omnipotence. Indeed, they have a great Fall. Their happiness and joy are enslaved to the calls and needs of the flesh and the senses and the vital instincts and pulls — bereft of their conscious origin. They have succumbed to a life of division, difficulties, diseases and Death. They live by and following the dictates of "The Force that works by the light of Ignorance." [Savitri Bk II, Co IV]

If we look at the ordinary human behaviour, we find that the human being lives mainly with his body — a body that perishes.

A body that knew not its own soul within,
There lived and longed, had wrath and joy and grief;
A mind was there that met the objective world
As if a stranger or enemy at its door:
Its thoughts were kneaded by the shocks of sense;
It captured not the spirit in the form,
It entered not the heart of what it saw;
It looked not for the power behind the act,
It studied not the hidden motive in things
Nor strove to find the meaning of it all.
Beings were there who wore a human form;
Absorbed they lived in the passion of the scene,
But knew not who they were or why they lived:
Content to breathe, to feel, to sense, to act,
Life had for them no aim save Nature's joy
And the stimulus and delight of outer things;
Identified with the spirit's outward shell,
They worked for the body's wants, they craved no more.

Though Mind is there in Man, he does not even has the proper use of it. He lives mainly by the vital impulses and the physical needs and the cravings. The human being is defined as a rational animal — but the animal nature is more prominent in him than the mental being.

An animal in the instinctive herd
Pushed by life impulses, forced by common needs,
Each in his own kind saw his ego's glass;
All served the aim and action of the pack.
Those like himself, by blood or custom kin,
To him were parts of his life, his adjunct selves,
His personal nebula's constituent stars,
Satellite companions of his solar I.
A master of his life's environment,
A leader of a huddled human mass
Herding for safety on a dangerous earth,
He gathered them round him as if minor Powers
To make a common front against the world,
Or, weak and sole on an indifferent earth,
As a fortress for his undefended heart,
Or else to heal his body's loneliness.

Thus we find that Man lives mainly with the ignorant vital nature, confined to the flesh and the senses and the desires, making the least and limited use of mind and having almost no concern with the Soul within, with the psychic being.

Suffering will not be there, if we rise beyond the body and the senses and the unbridled vital nature. Man has to be conscious beyond the Life and and beyond the the Mind. He must understand what he is and what the World is moving towards. He must find the Soul within — he must unveil the Psychic Being within himself. And it is the Psychic Consciousness that will lead him on the true Way. Man has to understand the higher Goal he has to live for; he should be conscious of the Higher Evolutionary progress that the World is to make. Man must understand what he really is and what is his Task.

Thus man in his little house made of earth's dust
Grew towards an unseen heaven of thought and dream
Looking into the vast vistas of his mind
On a small globe dotting infinity.
At last climbing a long and narrow stair
He stood alone on the high roof of things
And saw the light of a spiritual sun.
Aspiring he transcends his earthly self;
He stands in the largeness of his soul new-born,
Redeemed from encirclement by mortal things
And moves in a pure free spiritual realm
As in the rare breath of a stratosphere;
A last end of far lines of divinity,
He mounts by a frail thread to his high source;
He reaches his fount of immortality,
He calls the Godhead into his mortal life.

To put an end to the Darkness and the Ignorance and the sufferings, the human being has to mould his / her life and existence with the Psychic Presence.

Earth must transform herself and equal Heaven
Or Heaven descend into earth's mortal state.
But for such vast spiritual change to be,
Out of the mystic cavern in man's heart
The heavenly Psyche must put off her veil
And step into common nature's crowded rooms
And stand uncovered in that nature's front
And rule its thoughts and fill the body and life.
[Savitri Bk VII, Co II]

Let us have a Hope that we shall change ourselves and change this World of ours, too.

A Will, a hope immense now seized his heart,
And to discern the superhuman's form
He raised his eyes to unseen spiritual heights,
Aspiring to bring down a greater world.
The glory he had glimpsed must be his home.

The body illumined with the indwelling God,
The heart and mind feel one with all that is,
A conscious soul live in a conscious world.

Let us, thus, start living with this grand and sublime Hope.

Sri Aurobindo is with us

To the ordinary human understanding and sight, Sri Aurobindo is said to have passed away on the 5^th day of December 1950. Several persons have described this as the passing away of The Master— an Event that seemed to bring huge shadows of sorrows on the followers of The Master and The Mother. People in huge numbers paid their last respects to Him, till the 9^th day of December 1950.

To men in general, it was only, or mainly, a departure, a passing away, as billions and billions of humans have passed away since the beginning of the human race.

However, indeed, it was a sacrifice — a sacrifice of the physical being of The Master, a sacrifice made by Himself, so that the Supramental Consciousness and Force may descend to the physical plane. The Supermind descended and the consequence was the Sacrifice of the physical being of Sri Aurobindo, mainly due to the lack of receptivity of the earth and the people.

The Mother said on 8th December 1950: The lack of receptivity of the earth and men is mostly responsible for the decision Sri Aurobindo has taken regarding his body. But one thing is certain: what has happened on the physical plane affects in no way the truth of his teaching. All that he has said is perfectly true and remains so. Time and the course of events will prove it abundantly.

The Mother has again said 29^th December 1950: Our Lord has sacrificed himself totally for us … … He was not compelled to leave his body, he chose to do so for reasons so sublime that they are beyond the reach of human mentality … … And when we cannot understand, the only thing is to keep a respectful silence.

The Mother has also told that Sri Aurobindo is always present on earth for the progress and advancement of the Evolution — from Man to the Supramental Being.

On the 7^th day of December 1950, She said:

Lord, this morning Thou hast given me the assurance that Thou wouldst stay with us until Thy work is achieved, not only as a consciousness which guides and illumines but also as a dynamic Presence in action. In unmistaken terms Thou hast promised that all of Thyself would remain here and not leave the earth atmosphere until earth is transformed. Grant that we may be worthy of this Presence and henceforth everything in us be concentrated to the fulfilment of Thy sublime work.

Again on 18^th January 1951, She said: We stand in the Presence of Him who has sacrificed His physical life in order to help more fully His Work of Transformation.

He is always with us, aware of what we are, of all our thoughts, of all our feelings and all our actions.

On His leaving of His Physical body, the Supramental Consciousness descended in the physical being of The Mother — and then began the preparation for the Descent of the Supramental Consciousness on earth, which actually took place on 29^th February 1956.

The purpose for which Sri Aurobindo came to Pondicherry was the Descent of the Supramental Consciousness on earth and make Supermind a part of the earthly nature, as Life and Mind are parts of nature on earth. Nature is evolutionary and as Life and Mind have manifested through an evolutionary process, so will Supermind manifest on earth. And that is the Work of Sri Aurobindo — a Total Transformation.

The Descent of Supermind had a requirement that there shall be an Ascent to the Supramental Plane. Only after the Ascent, the Task of the Supramental Descent was taken by The Master. Even in 1938, Supermind used to descend in the physical being of The Master. But It was not settled then in His physical Mind or in His physical being.

When Supermind descends into a human being, It creates a Mind of Light, a Pure Mind reflecting and radiating the Light and Consciousness and Force, as stated and explained by Sri Aurobindo in The Supramental Manifestation upon Earth.

The Mother said that "as soon as Sri Aurobindo withdrew from His body, what He called the Mind of Light got realized here." And the Mind of Light manifested in The Mother.

As soon as the Supramental Consciousness descended on Him, Sri Aurobindo left His body with a view to concentrate on His Work: The Supramental Manifestation on earth. The Work of the Supramental Manifestation intensified with the so-called passing away of Sri Aurobindo. And Sri Aurobindo's physical Withdrawal was greatly successful when on the 29^th February 1956, The Mother caused an uninterrupted flow of the Supramental Consciousness and Force upon earth.

The Work of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo is going on, led by Them.

The Mother has said on 15 April 1972 :

The transition from man to the supramental being is accomplished through the superman. There may be a few superman - there are - who will actually make that transition. [Mother's Agenda, vol. 13]

The Mother differentiated between the Supramental Being and the Superman. The Supramental Being will have a Supramental Body.

Beyond Man

Bengali singer Nochiketa sang a song : Manushgulō satyikaarer maanush hobe kobe ? Recently I happened to listen to it, though I heard it earlier also. The line quoted here means: When will the human beings be truly human?

But it was seemingly a coincidence that I came across an essay by Arhata Osho, a friend of mine, bearing the title "Monkeys to Humanoids" which I have also published in my Blog The New Platform.

Arhata says that human beings as yet have not become any different from the monkeys — in spite of the so-called progress made by science and technology or in spite of the civilized processes provided by religion and politics. Summarlily, I agree with him and also with the singer Nochiketa or the song writer Pritom.

The question arises: Should we for ever be humanoids? Should humans continue monkeying always?

The reply is — NO.

But what is the Solution? How are we to progress ahead?

We must transcend beyond the present stage, or we shall have to be surpassed by the Supernature. The coming of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother on earth amid us all the human beings was with the Divine Promise and Hope that we shall transcend ourselves. However, to fulfill the promise, we shall have to co-operate with this Evolutionary Purpose, which is also the Truth that we should know and understand.

The Mother said

Man is the creation of yesterday.
Sri Aurobindo came to announce the creation of tomorrow: the coming of the supramental being.

She further told us:

Sri Aurobindo came upon earth to announce the manifestation of the supramental world and not merely did he announce this manifestation but embodied also in part the supramental force and showed by example what one must do to prepare oneself for manifesting it. The best thing we can do is to study all that he has told us and endeavor to follow his example and prepare ourselves for the new manifestation.

The human life is limited by Tamas — by ignorance, inertia, inconscience, falsehood, darkness, divisions, diseases and death. This has been so, since the beginning of Man's appearance on the earthly scene, since the Homo Neanderthal stepped on earth.

However, he has been progressing and growing in spite of all his limitations. He lives with a Hope, with a Consciousness that has been facing and conquering ignorance and darkness, diseases and death, facing and conquering all his difficulties, problems and shortcomings. He has grown through the forest civilization to the civilizations of the Vedas, of the pyramids and the sphinx, of Harappa and Mohenjodaro, of Babylon , and has progressed from those moments to the One World civilization of the twenty-first century. It is also seen that Man has lived from the very beginning with some Faith and Belief in the Highest Consciousness and Force, That has been his Source and also his Help and Guide in his fighting against all his difficulties, trials and problems, in his progress and advancement. And this way he has grown with his culture and civilization, his science and philosophy, his search of truth, beauty and goodness, of satyam-shivam-sundaram, his search of and becoming in spirituality.

Man, the mental being, is, according to Sri Aurobindo, a transitional being. The human history is a story of a constant change and growth. Whatever he is, is a temporary phase, because his arrival on earth is a promise of a better, higher and much more conscious existence on earth. There will be the advent of a being who will conquer ignorance and darkness and inertia, conquer all his divisions and mental barriers, conquer the so-called fate and uncertainties, conquer diseases and death. The present limitations will be broken, and man will progress towards The New Creation, walking on The New Way. He shall have to proceed ahead towards The New Race, failing which, he will have to face the Abyss. The Task before Man is to evolve into a higher being with a divinity manifested. This is the New Light given to us by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.

We ought to believe in human progress and evolution in order to make a progressive march towards The New World, towards a world of a Higher Consciousness and Force and Joy. Man has the inborn capacity to outgrow and master all his imperfections and darkness, and he ought to grow accordingly into a creative, constructive and divinized higher being.

The human society should also grow accordingly and conquer all darkness within and without, surpassing all the artificial barriers — racial, religious, linguistic, political and others.

Sri Aurobindo has given us the Hope:
Nature shall live to manifest secret God,
The Spirit shall take up the human play,
The earthly life become the life divine.

And thus said The Mother :
Man is the creation of Yesterday.
Sri Aurobindo came to announce the creation of tomorrow: the coming of the supramental being.

This is our Task ahead, our true Goal: to prepare ourselves, to build ourselves for the advent of the New World , for our march towards the New Race, the New Humanity.

The Mother declared :
A new world is born,
The things that were promised are fulfilled.

If we aspire and endeavour, if we live with the hope and the dream, surpassing our social divisions and differences based on castes, creeds, races, languages, states, religions and political ideas, and if we also accompany other aspirants, then we will proceed ahead in our march towards The New World, towards The New Race. Let us forget all our differences, all our divisions, and march ahead following The New Light.

Sri Aurobindo has told that a time will come, when a mightier race, a supramental race, shall inhabit this earth — as early as we aspire and endeavour and be worthy of. We shall have to transmute and transform ourselves, so that we will grow into and cause the emergence of The New Race.

Sri Aurobindo has said:
Then shall the embodied being live as one
Who is a thought, a will of the Divine,
A mask or robe of his divinity,
An instrument and partner of his Force,
A point or line drawn in the infinite,
A manifest of the Imperishable.
The supermind shall be his nature's fount,
The Eternal's truth shall mould his thoughts and acts,
The Eternal's truth shall be his light and guide.
All then shall change, a magic order come
Overtopping this mechanical universe.
A mightier race shall inhabit the mortal' mortal's world.

The mankind, along with the earth, is now in a great turmoil and chaos and disharmony. Everywhere, there is unrest and struggle and warfare and violence.

In our journey as human beings so far, we have committed enormous mistakes and errors and follies. We, the human beings, have seen tremendous cruelties and massacres, we have engrossed ourselves in ignorance and dissipation, and as a consequence, we have most of the time found ourselves in darkness, with lots of sufferings and chaos and obscurity. The animal in Man has been very prominent and very much overpowering. The Real Man in him seems to be defeated and cornered and hidden.

But there have always been some hope, some golden linings. Men have always tried to come out of this darkness, from this animal consciousness that they inherited from evolution. They have sought for Truth and Light and Love, for liberation from the bondage of death and diseases, of division and darkness. They have endeavored to bring joy and happiness amidst all sufferings and pains.

And there has always been the golden ray of Hope for men. At least some men have always burned the incense of Aspiration for progress, for all that is True, Good and Beautiful, all that is Divine, all that is from the Supreme. There has been some progress, some Hope, in spite of all regressive movements. And there has always been some Descent from the Supreme Consciousness and Being amid this humanity living in darkness.

Hence, having collected all that is golden in our harvest so far, since the beginning of the human journey, we should march towards the New World . It is not that we will leave this world and go elsewhere to find another planet in search of the New World . Nor should we become sannyasins or recluses. We need not retire into some forests or mountains. We will change this world.

We can see that this world, as it is now, is in an extremely bad state of affairs. Falsehood, hatred, selfishness, corruption, greed, deception, violence, cruelty, inhumanity, and hunger for power - these appear to be the ruling forces now. All the noble Ideals or Ideas that prevailed on earth and inspired many of our noble ancients or our forefathers, have, as it were, become obsolete. Look at history and the present day earth: ideologically, and in consciousness, men seem to have become pygmies. To someone, men are hyenas; to some other, they may be humanoids very close to monkeys.

We have been seeing destructions and wars throughout this earth: In India, in USA , in Afghanistan and Iraq , and earlier, elsewhere. There are terrorists and suicide-bombers. Armies or the armed prople are attacking and destroying here and there. The entire human society is sitting on a heap of bombs - atomic or non-atomic. In relationships, we can seldom find beauty and love and fellow-feeling. In arts and culture, vulgarity has almost ruined beauty.

As we have known, this earth is an evolutionary field. Evolution is the history of life's manifestation on earth. This has been well said by Darwin . According to him, man is the consequence of this earthly evolution. But he did not proceed beyond the appearance of Homo Neanderthal. He was silent about evolution after the appearance of Man on earth, or about the purpose why man was evolved at all. His view was a scientific truth, within the material viewpoint of Science.

As Sri Aurobindo has said, the time has come when evolution must surpass man. Man is not the perfect being, not the complete being. But he has the aspiration and dream for becoming perfect, for becoming complete. Evolution aims at ultimately manifesting That which is the Source of this Manifestation, the Supreme Existence-Consciousness-Bliss (in Sanskrit and other Indian languages called Sat-Chit-Ananda or Sachchidananda), the Divine. Out of Man shall manifest the Superman. Man has to become the Base, the Instrument for the Advent of the Superman. He has to grow into the Superman, and according to The Mother, the Supermen shall further grow into the Supramental beings, the Supramental Race. The purpose of the appearance of man must now be fulfilled, and man's surpassing himself will do that. Man has to collaborate with the new evolution, or the evolutionary forces will ignore him and go beyond him and find out its own means.

Since the coming of Man on the earthly scene, in course of Evolution, he (or she) has never stopped growing in culture and civilization, in general. But he has stilled not moved an inch, with a few exceptions, individually, of course. Man is still a fierce, enraged, jealous, lustful, greedy animal.

But he will have to go beyond himself — towards a glorious future.

Philosophers are there — thinkers. They have taken human thought to superb heights. But men have shut them up into books in the libraries or in the showcases.

Religions are there, initiated by some of the greatest spiritual leaders, who represented the Supreme Divine. But the religions were used by the humans to cut the throats of each others, in the most anti-Divine manner. There is no doubt that religions were of great help to the mankind. They have surely shown paths to the mankind towards Perfection and re-creation of the human nature. But they have not succeeded to help the general mankind to surpass its animal nature — there are ample of examples in our present-day daily life.

Sri Aurobindo has said:

All religions have saved a number of souls but none yet has been able to spiritualize mankind. For that there is needed not cult and creed, but a sustained and all-comprehending effort at spiritual self-evolution. [India's Rebirth]

In the name of religion, the people fight each other, and they are taking themselves farther away form the Divine, from spirituality.

Sri Aurobindo has said:
The end of a stage of evolution is usually marked by a powerful recrudescence of all that has to go out of evolution.

No doubt, Science and logic stand guard against falsehood, superstition and ignorance. But Science discovers and finds only a partial aspect of the Truth. Reason and logic are not the only bases of Truth. And the integral seeker of the complete Truth, a true student of Philosophy realizes this.

Sri Aurobindo has said in 'Thoughts and Aphorisms':
Late, I learned that when reason died, then Wisdom was born; before that liberation, I had only knowledge.
What men call knowledge, is the reasoned acceptance of false appearances. Wisdom looks behind and sees.
Reason divides, fixes details and contrasts them; Wisdom unifies, marries contrasts in a single harmony.

In fact, the last thing or the last stage will never come, as evolution will go on eternally, forever. But man has to proceed forward ahead, surpassing his present stage of incompleteness, imperfection. He has to know himself, strive towards Perfection and surpass himself. As it has been said earlier, the Superman shall emerge out of Man. Man has to surpass all the limits of mind and reason, scale newer and newer heights of Consciousness and ascend to Gnosis, the Supramental Consciousness, and then shall emerge on earth the supramental race. This is the Truth Sri Aurobindo has brought for us. We shall have to live for this Goal, this Truth.

The Mother gave us the following message on the 1st January 1967 :
Men, countries, continents!

The choice is imperative: Truth or the abyss.

Let us always remember that the choice is imperative. And that is the Destiny of this Earth. We have to live for the Future, to reach this Goal.
The Mother told us also:

Blessed are those who take a leap towards the Future.

She advised us:

Remain young. Never stop striving towards Perfection.

Further, She also told us:

Man is the creation of yesterday.

Sri Aurobindo came to announce the creation of tomorrow: the coming of the supramental being.

Let us, therefore, march on towards the New Horizon, find the New Light, find the New Goal and the New Way and live for this New World .
The Mother wrote on 25 September 1914 , addressing the Divine Mother:

The Lord has willed and Thou dost execute:
A new Light shall break upon the earth.
A new world shall be born,
And the things that were promised shall be fulfilled.

Again, much later, She wrote, as the Divine Mother personified:

Lord, Thou hast willed and I execute:
A new Light breaks upon the earth.
A new world is born,
And the things that were promised are fulfilled.

And actually, the New World is born, and we will have to bring it out physically, materially, in the real possibility.

Man can live in either in search of pleasure and enjoyment, or otherwise for a definite purpose, which may bring him more fulfillments, more joy. The higher the purpose, the greater is the joy and fulfillment. The higher the Consciousness one aspires for, and the wider one's consciousness, the more purposeful one's life is, the greater is one's joy. Man may orient his endeavor, his way of life, towards limited personal happiness and satisfaction, or towards a greater and wider Joy and fulfillment, along with others, for others, maybe, with the entire mankind, for the entire mankind, for higher values of Truth, Light, Wisdom, Beauty, Creativity, Goodness, Love, Wideness, Harmony and Peace, Total Well-being.

We may sleep in darkness or remain half-asleep in twilight, or otherwise be in joyous contemplation in moonlight or start discovering our world in sunlight. It is as we may choose.

Sri Aurobindo says:

Unhappy is the man or the nation which, when, the divine moment arrives, is found sleeping or unprepared to use it, because the lamp has not been kept trimmed for the welcome and the ears are sealed to the call. But thrice woe to them who are strong and ready, yet waste the force or misuse the moment; for them is irreparable loss or a great destruction.

The divine moment continues. We may say that the moment that began with Sri Aurobindo continues till the accomplishment of his work: evolution of Man beyond himself into a higher Consciousness, leading to the Advent of the Supramental Consciousness.

When the divine moment continues, should we go on sleeping? Should we continue in meaningless circles? Should we not try to contribute to the Great Work, though our portions of contributions may appear to be small, very small?

Sri Aurobindo and Avatarhood 1

Sri Aurobindo was the last Avatar in a human body.

That is what The Mother has said.

She has also said that Sri Aurobindo would return, but NOT in a human body — NOT in a body born as a human being or of a human being. And His return may even be as late as five hundred years from his departure.

I have said earlier also that according to The Mother, Sri Aurobindo was an emanation of the Supreme. He was / is an Avatar of The Supreme. He came to transcend the Overmind consciousness and to cause the Descent of The Supramental Consciousness. He is beyond the Overmental Godheads.

Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are the trinity — three aspects of the Supreme. Just to represent one of them would mean that Sri Aurobindo's coming was partial. His process is synthetic and integral. He thus represented the Supreme integrally and entirely. And He came here on earth to manifest the Supramental Consciousness, not to repeat the Overmind Consciousness.

Let us see what Sri Aurobindo speaks of two other Avatars, two other great Spiritual Personalities:

What was Ramakrishna? God manifest in a human being; but behind there is God in His infinite impersonality and His universal Personality. And what was Vivekananda? A radiant glance from the eye of Shiva; but behind him is the divine gaze from which he came and Shiva himself and Brahma and Vishnu and OM all-exceeding.

Similarly Sri Aurobindo, too, manifested the Supreme Divine in all His aspects, entirely, integrally behind Him. And His purpose was a completely new Thing: to transcend the human consciousness on earth towards a New Creation.

Sri Aurobindo totally revolutionized the spiritual world, the spiritual traditions, the spiritual manifestations. The Transformation They have intended to bring in beyond the spiritual Transformation — it is the Supramental Transformation. He and The Mother have done something which nobody else have ever thought or attempted. So it is not a wise thing to shut up Sri Aurobindo and The Mother into some old systems. We cannot forcefully ask Sri Aurobindo to remain limited in an old concept of Dashavatara of Vishnu.

The Mother has said:

One who truly follows the path given by Sri Aurobindo, as soon as he begins to have the experience of this path, will find it impossible to confine his consciousness to the worship of any god or goddess or even of all of them together.

Our purpose is to go ahead towards the Supramental Becoming and Progress. We are not here to confine ourselves to the old tradition, which is not correctly the Vedic tradition, but a tradition which grew much later than the Vedic period. We do not find all the Ten Avatars being mentioned in the Vedas.

Further, it may be repeatedly mentioned what Sri Aurobindo said about the last three Avatars:

Krishna, Buddha and Kalki depict the last three stages, the stages of the spiritual development – Krishna opens the possibility of overmind, Buddha tries to shoot beyond to the supreme liberation but that liberation is still negative, not returning upon earth to complete positively the evolution; Kalki is to correct this by bringing the Kingdom of the Divine upon earth, destroying the opposing Asura forces.

These are the Words from Sri Aurobindo — and therefore these words make up one of the most confirmed proof that Sri Aurobindo himself is NOT among the Ten Avatars. Indeed, He is beyond the Ten Avatars.

If the Words from Sri Aurobindo and The Mother are not presenting confirmed and solid proofs, then what else can? Words and books and chronicles from a person, who says that she follows Them but refutes and ignores what They have said and also presents them in a way that suits her, has no meaning and cannot stand against the Words of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.

On 8th December 1950, after the departure of Sri Aurobindo, The Mother said:

When I asked Him (December 8, 1950) to resuscitate his body, He clearly answered: "I left this body purposely. I will not take it back. I shall manifest again in the first supramental body built in the supramental way.

Can anyone say that this message of The Mother has no strength in it as an evidence of the Fact that Sri Aurobindo IS not reborn in a human body, after His departure on the 5^th December ?

About the Return of Sri Aurobindo The Mother has further said as follows:

"The return of Sri Aurobindo very soon is not likely. His going was connected with world conditions. If world-conditions had been such as could so soon change and be suitable for his presence amongst us, his going itself would have been unnecessary.

"Also, the return cannot be in a startling miraculous manner. That would not be consistent with Sri Aurobindo's method and our work. A more probable way of return would be: the present occasional visions of Sri Aurobindo which some people see — the almost material appearance he now makes to some people at certain times — may increase; the manifestation may be more frequent and more general, until one day a permanent reappearance takes place.

"One cannot fix the precise time of his return. It may even be five hundred years later. I can't say anything, since the knowledge has not come to me. I only say things when I get them. This much I have said: Sri Aurobindo will be the first to have the supramental body.

"People keep asking me: 'When Sri Aurobindo comes back in a supramental body, will he need to eat or drink or do other usual things?' All these questions are silly.'

"Sri Aurobindo's leaving the body makes no essential difference. Sri Aurobindo is after all a certain consciousness, the divine consciousness, and this consciousness was there even before the earth came. The question of his 'absence' has little meaning.

"A world war may destroy the civilization, but it won't destroy the Divine's work. Sri Aurobindo once told me that he had so arranged things that nothing would interfere with his work." [Mother India, December 1974]

A handful of quotes from Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, I repeatedly say, is definitely more powerful and convincing that any endeavour to misrepresent facts regarding Sri Aurobindo and His Avatarhood or Return. To a true and sincere follower, there is nothing more convincing and forceful except what They have said. Today I have laid down, more clearly, more about Sri Aurobindo's Avatarhood and Return, what all Their true followers throughout the World DO definitely accept what The Mother and Sri Aurobindo have said in these matters.

In presenting these sayings of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo, in saying that Sri Aurobindo is the Avatar of the Supreme, but not the Avatar of a particular aspect of the Supreme, in saying that Sri Aurobindo will never return in Human body, I have quoted authentic and forceful and highly convincing sayings of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo. I also hold that Sri Aurobindo has not been reborn as a human being of a human mother in a supramental body.

And I have no vested interest in this matter. I only serve the Truth.

And I am not pretending to be a follower of Sri Aurobindo. Sri Aurobindo and The Mother know the best what I am, and many of Their followers also know me. By using these words, none can stop me from telling the Truth, as said by The Mother and Sri Aurobindo.

I refer to these points as these things are said about me by Lori Tompkins, a follower of Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet, in one of her articles in Circumsolatious**, in a very aggressively attacking way, challenging what I have written in an article of mine, Sri Aurobindo and Avatarhood, published on in All Choice and Sulekha* and in Savitri Era Open Forum of Tushar Mohapatra.

In Sri Aurobindo and Avatarhood, I have said, in short, that Sri Aurobindo need not be one of Dasavatara of Vishnu. Because, He has never said so; The Mother, too, has never said so.

Though He is not less in that level and in fact higher. Indeed, I said, following The Mother, that He is the Avatar of the Supreme. And I also said that Vishnu is only an aspect of the Supreme.

24. When I pine at misfortune and call it evil, or am jealous and disappointed, then I know that there is awake in me again the eternal fool.

[Sri Aurobindo: Thoughts and Aphorisms]

When the consequence of some of our actions is not as expected, or when there is some setback, we consider it to be a misfortune. And also we call it an evil.

Further, often, as a reaction of the said misfortune, we find in ourselves jealousy and misfortune. When our interest is not felt or fulfilled, there is 'disappointment' in us and also often there is 'jealousy' in some of us, when others are found to be 'fortunate'.

These are all reactions of the vital being — the lower vital. And our judgment is then covered and influenced by the vital impulse. Often, however, it may so happen that what may seem to be a misfortune today, may later on be proved to be a bringer of good results. But the vital reactions use our intelligence and reduce us to be less intelligent, of a limited intelligence, of a dwarf ego — we become examples of 'the eternal fool'. We are then limited by Ignorance, and Inconscience and a half-conscious egoism.

The Mother says: "… whatever happens to us is always for our good, if we take the point of view of the spirit in the unfolding of time."

And Sri Aurobindo has said:

But human mind clings to its ignorance

And to its littleness the human heart

And to its right to grief the earthly life.

Only when Eternity takes Time by the hand,

Only when infinity weds the finite's thought,

Can man be free from himself and live with God.

21. Forgiveness is praised by the Christian and the Vaishnava, but for me, I ask, "What have I to forgive and whom ?"

22. God struck me with a human hand; shall I say then, "I pardon Thee thy insolence, O God" ?

23. God gave me good in a blow. Shall I say, "I forgive thee, O Almighty One, the harm and the cruelty, but do it not again" ?

Forgiveness is a great virtue, it has been said. However, when there is the Supreme Realization, one has the identification with the Divine, sees Him everywhere and in each being. One finds that one is the same Divine as all others are. Then the question of forgiving the same Divine who is in each being does not arise. This is from the viewpoint of the Individual who realizes the Divine.

Insofar as the Supreme is concerned, in His viewpoint, all is the Divine, as nothing exists without Him and beyond Him, and all the actions are taken by Him, all works are done by Him. Then whom should He punish and whom should He forgive? The Supreme may forgive someone if the latter is different from and other than Him.

Often the Divine may give someone a blow through somebody else — in order to correct Himself in that person. Sri Aurobindo says that it would be a striking through a human hand. One who has the Realization finds this blow to be from the Divine, though through a human instrument. Should the Divine be forgiven, then?

Forgiveness is an idea that belongs to the divided world, the world of Thought when and where the Divine Identification is not yet realized. Persons are different and separate from each other and there is no realization of the inner oneness.

In this regard The Mother has said that if we are afraid of the consequences of some actions, then we must correct ourselves to the extent that the source of the erroneous action is no more left active in us. Then only the resultant reactions of the wrong actions may stop. If the mistake is the result of some ignorance, the ignorance must cease to be in us. Or, if the mistake is committed due to a bad will, then the bad will must leave us. The Mother says: "The regret will not do, it must be accompanied by a step forward."

Only an inner spiritual transformation can save us from the consequences of our bad actions. And then, what is the need of any Forgiveness? We are to unveil and know our inner being, our psychic being, and then have an inner Transformation to begin with. This is the need before each of us.

"A secret soul behind supporting all
Is master and witness of our ignorant life,
Admits the Person's look and Nature's role.
But once the hidden doors are flung apart
Then the veiled king steps out in Nature's front;
A Light comes down into the Ignorance,
Its heavy painful knot loosens its grasp:
The mind becomes a mastered instrument
And life a hue and figure of the soul.
All happily grows towards knowledge and towards bliss.
A divine Puissance then takes Nature's place
And pushes the movements of our body and mind;
Possessor of our passionate hopes and dreams,
The beloved despot of our thoughts and acts,
She streams into us with her unbound force,
Into mortal limbs the Immortal's rapture and power.
An inner law of beauty shapes our lives … …"

19. When I had the dividing reason, I shrank from many things; after I had lost it in sight, I hunted through the world for the ugly and the repellent, but I could no longer find them.

20. God had opened my eyes; for I saw the nobility of the vulgar, the attractiveness of the repellent, the perfection of the maimed and the beauty of the hideous.

In the normal human consciousness, reason is mainly analytical. It divides, creating 'opposites' : good and bad, virtue and sin, beautiful and ugly, and so on. In every realm of thinking, normally these opposites come into play. Only in some highly rational thinking, there may be attempts of synthesis. Surpassing thesis and antithesis, there is synthesis. But by a purely rational approach, man cannot experience the synthesis, he can only have an idea of the synthesis, a probability, or a future possibility. To have a true synthesis, Man has to transcend mind.

As long as Man lives with a dividing reason, he sees the ugly and the repellent. And he shrinks from them, hates them, avoids them. But when Man transcends the mind, he grows into a different Man, one with a higher consciousness, when nothing is ugly to him any more, nothing is repellent, for he sees the Divine in everything. Even behind what Man thought or found to be ugly or repellent, he then finds the Divine, the All-beautiful. Behind everything and the world and even behind himself, he finds the principle of Existence-Consciousness-Bliss, Sachchidananda, the Supreme Divine, which the principle of the Supreme Beauty, as The Mother has expressed.

Man in the ordinary consciousness has an Aspiration for Perfection, in spite of the fact that he finds himself to be surrounded by imperfection. But this very urge for Perfection often impels him to shrink from what he finds to be ugly or what repels him. Whatever is short of Perfection, that may offend his Aspiration and he may avoid it or evade from it, shrink from it. But when mind is transcended, he finds the Divine within and everywhere — and the ugly is no more in his sight and nothing repels him. For, when "Sarvam khalvidam Brahma" [All is indeed Brahman], what is then ugly and what is that repels?

Even if there is lot of imperfection in all respects presently on earth, things will certainly change, even when a group, a small collectivity, will become successful in realizing and manifesting the Divine Consciousness on earth. And such will be result of the Supramental Manifestation, even in the beginning stage. Then, the outer imperfection and ugliness and all that repels will be transformed, with a Divine expression. The Supramental Consciousness will enlighten the entire earth, and there will be the Supramental Light touching "the roads of mind" as foreseen by Sri Aurobindo.

A divine harmony shall be earth's law,
Beauty and joy remould her way to live:
Even the body shall remember God,
Nature shall draw back from mortality
And Spirit's fires shall guide the earth's blind force;
Knowledge shall bring into the aspirant Thought
A high proximity to Truth and God.
The supermind shall claim the world for Light
And thrill with love of God the enamoured heart
And place Light's crown on Nature's lifted head
And found Light's reign on her unshaking base.
A greater truth than earth's shall roof-in earth
And shed its sunlight on the roads of mind;
A power infallible shall lead the thought,
A seeing Puissance govern life and act,
In earthly hearts kindle the Immortal's fire.
A soul shall wake in the Inconscient's house;
The mind shall be God-vision's tabernacle,
The body intuition's instrument,
And life a channel for God's visible power.
All earth shall be the Spirit's manifest home,
Hidden no more by the body and the life,
Hidden no more by the mind's ignorance;
An unerring Hand shall shape event and act.

18. Chance is not in this universe; the idea of illusion is itself an illusion. There was never illusion yet in the human mind that was not the concealing and disfigurement of a truth.

There is nothing in this Universe which may be described as a "Chance". And this Universe also is not a Chance There is no illusion — the idea of illusion is itself an illusion.

According to Sri Aurobindo, this is the Truth. In the Truth and Reality of Things, there is no Chance, no Illusion. Whatever we, the humans, regard to be an illusion, that has concealed and disfigured some Truth. Behind every "illusion" we have some Truth and we have to find it.

Truth is covered to us — the humans — as our consciousness is limited, as our capacity to know things or Truth of things is quite limited. We know through the senses or through mental groping or through reason. Senses are quite limited and they cover Truth, they give us a limited representation of Truth. The senses constitute a distorted medium of knowledge. Mental groping very often limit us, mislead us, for the light of Truth is often away from the mental ideas or mental groping. In this regard The Mother says: "We know that it [mind] is always groping, seeking to know, erring, returning upon its previous attempts and trying again… … … Its progress is very, very halting."

Reason also is never direct. In inductive reason, we try to reach a Truth by generalization, which may often side-track a difference. We may reach a generalization, after an incomplete survey. For example, we generalize that all crows are black, but our generalization may be after an incomplete survey: the possibility of there being some white crows may be there! And this possibility is always there, till we have direct Knowledge: Knowledge by Identification, Knowledge by an intuitive means, when Truth is revealed like a Sunrise in the darkness!

All this is because the human mind, along with the general human consciousness, as it is now, is very much limited and is in Ignorance and Darkness. The life we are born with, the life we live and lead, the circumstances we are in and we create around us, the collectivity we live with and we live in, the way we grow and the way we accept the physical end — everything is covered with illusion and ignorance, and everything seems to us to be a matter of chance. The things and circumstances we rejoice at, the happenings and the matters for which we dance with joy and in enjoyment, are all covered with ignorance and darkness and inertia. And we seem to be happy with our unhappiness.

But there is truly a rosy Hope with every human being, with all of us, each of us — we can cross the limitations, tear the bondage of ignorance, dispel the darkness shadowing our mind and consciousness. We have nourished, since the beginning of the human race, a Hope. We seek Knowledge and Wisdom, we seek Joy and Bliss, we create things, conquer our difficulties and diseases and try to conquer even 'death'. In the darkest darkness, we cherish a Hope in us. We cherish the Hope of conquering darkness and ignorance, of conquering the limits and limitations. It has compelled us to move onwards through all the impediments on the Way.

In each of us, there is a Divine spark! The Upanishadic Truth is : "EkoΣham bahu syāma." I am alone, I will be many — so said the Supreme. The Divine seed is there in each of us — the psychic. So, we shall have to become the Many — not the many animals, not the many human beings who are covered by Ignorance and Darkness and are also limited — but the many Divine Beings! And we shall become so — that is the Hope! That is the Divine Will, the Will of the Supreme which is being realized from the moment of the Big Bang!

The way the ordinary human being sees and knows things, everything appears to be "illusions" — for, we do not see the Reality, the Truth, which remains covered and limited. Once the consciousness rises and expands beyond the limits, we find Truth, become Truth, we live in Truth. There is no illusion, then. In the Truth of the absolute Reality, there is no illusion, for, when we ascend the state of a higher mind, Truth is revealed, and we find that actually there is no illusion. And then we fins also find that this creation, this Universe is not a mere chance, it is the Will of the Supreme, of Existence-Consciousness-Bliss.

As we have a limited and covered consciousness, in the level of the ordinary human consciousness, the Reality appears to us to be something what it is not really. It appears to be something else, something other than what it truly is. But the appearance is only a cover; behind it, there is the Reality, Truth, the Divine. This we can realize and understand, once we march ahead beyond the limit. This Real Truth is behind all the appearance that the Universe seems to be.

Sri Aurobindo says that the World is not an Illusion, not a Falsehood, it is a Reality; only, our perception of it is covered, and therefore, wrong and false.

Out of the inconscient and subliminal
Arisen, we live in mind's uncertain light
And strive to know and master a dubious world
Whose purpose and meaning are hidden from our sight.
Above us dwells a superconscient God
Hidden in the mystery of his own light:
Around us is a vast of ignorance
Lit by the uncertain ray of human mind,
Below us sleeps the Inconscient dark and mute.

This is the state of consciousness of an ordinary human being — "we live in mind's uncertain light." But as we have seen earlier, there is a Hope for us all

This is not all we are or all our world.
Our greater self of knowledge waits for us,
A supreme light in the truth-conscious Vast:
It sees from summits beyond thinking mind,
It moves in a splendid air transcending life.
It shall descend and make earth's life divine.
Truth made the world, not a blind Nature-Force.
For here are not our large diviner heights;
Our summits in the superconscient's blaze
Are glorious with the very face of God:
There is our aspect of eternity,
There is the figure of the god we are,
His young unaging look on deathless things,
His joy in our escape from death and Time,
His immortality and light and bliss.
Our larger being sits behind cryptic walls:
There are greatnesses hidden in our unseen parts
That wait their hour to step into life's front:
We feel an aid from deep indwelling Gods;
One speaks within, Light comes to us from above.
Our soul from its mysterious chamber acts;
Its influence pressing on our heart and mind
Pushes them to exceed their mortal selves.

To exceed our mortal selves is our Hope and our Future and possibility and also our Task ahead. That is the Truth of our being : to become the Divine selves. We must realize that our true selves are beyond death and Time. Anything else or anything less is truly an illusion, a falsehood.

17. Someone was laying it down that God must be this or that or He would not be God. But it seemed to me that I can only know what God is and I do not see how I can tell Him what He ought to be.. For what is the standard by which we can judge Him ? These judgments are the follies of our egoism.

God IS. He is the Pure Existence, the Pure Consciousness, along with His Supreme Creative Force, and He is also the Pure Bliss and Joy. Sri Aurobindo says that we can know God and what God is, but we cannot dictate what God should be. We cannot qualify God's Existence or His Consciousness, or His Form or Formlessness, or His Joy.

If we try to impose what God should be, then He will no more be the Supreme, but a plaything of the half-conscious physical mind of Man, crowned with Ego..

Generally, in the ordinary state of human consciousness, there is mainly the play of the vital being and the physical mind. And the individual consciousness there has taken the false form of the Ego in Man. And the Ego carries with it the heavy weight of ignorance, darkness, inertia and vital and physical grossness.

A few religious preachers have limited God to their choice. Some say that one particular Teacher or Embodiment is the only Manifestation of God on earth. Some say that He has this (one particular) Form and no other. Some even declare that He has no Forms. Some say that He is far above the Creation and does therefore never interfere. There are several specifications which often create religious conflicts. These are all the results of choices and impositions made by Ignorance and Ego.

The Mother has said that when God is realized by someone, his physical mind is then changed and transformed. And the Realization comes with an identification with the Divine when the individual consciousness surpasses the physical mind and its limits.

The Divine is within Man as the Psychic Being and It has to be unveiled. According to Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, though the Soul is present with all living beings, the Psychic Being is different from it in the sense that the psychic is an active and evolving aspect of the soul and is present only in Man.**

In the ordinary level of human being, the psychic being is veiled and the consciousness is covered with Ignorance. But then, he has the Task and the Opportunity of going deep within and unveiling the psychic. That is the First Step of the possible Transformation of Man.

When the psychic being is unveiled, the human being then has the Divine Realization, for he has the Identification with the Divine residing within, and his physical mind is changed — he ascends to a Mind of a higher Consciousness.

Man, in the level of ordinary consciousness, lives in the lower triplicity — the mind, the vital and the physical. There is the possibility of a Divine Realization in that level, only when the consciousness in Man reaches and realizes the Supermind and has the required Transformation. Otherwise, Man has reach and live in a level beyond Mind.

The Mother has said: "The capacity to know God can be achieved in the lower triplicity — the mind, the vital and the physical — only with the supramental transformation, and this comes only just before the ultimate realization, which consists in becoming Divine."

We have seen in what is said by The Mother that Man can know the Divine by becoming the Divine himself. And the first step thereof is the unveiling of the psychic, the discovery of the Soul in Man's innermost Depth.

The Mother says: "To find the soul, you must step back from the surface, withdraw deep inside, and go in, farther in, go down, farther down, into a very deep hole, silent and still: there you will find something warm, tranquil, rich in content, and very still, very full, a sort of softness — that is the Soul. And if you persist and are yourself conscious, there comes a sense of plenitude, of something complete that contains unfathomable depths. You feel that if you entered there, many secrets would be revealed; it's like the reflection of something eternal on a very peaceful surface of water. And the limits of time no longer exist. You have the impression of having always been and of being for eternity."

The Mother has also given us, in Her way, the guidance for how the psychic is opened, how the soul is discovered : " You are seated before a closed door, as it were, like a heavy door of bronze, and you remain there with a will that it should open to let you through to the other side. So, all your concentration, all your aspiration is gathered in a single beam and keeps pushing and pushing against that door, pushing harder and harder, with increasing energy, until suddenly the door gives way. And enter, as if thrust into the light."

And that is indeed a New Birth, a New Becoming for the Aspirant. The man in ignorance is reborn for ever with a Divine Light, a Divine Fire. Prior to this state of discovering the Inner Divine, the soul, the psychic being, our life is but a march onward from Matter to the "timeless Self" — this unveiling, this discovery should be and is our first Goal.

The physical mind, or even the rational mind, has no necessity of deciding what God should be or should not be, though it may gather information, as a preparatory measure from Those who have seen or realized. In order to know the Divine, one has to become the Divine, or , to be more specific, one has to unveil and realize one's own Divinity — hence there is no need or scope to decide or determine or impose what God should be.

O man, the events that meet thee on thy road,
Though they smite thy body and soul with joy and grief,
Are not thy fate,--they touch thee awhile and pass;
Even death can cut not short thy spirit's walk:
Thy goal, the road thou choosest are thy fate.
On the altar throwing thy thoughts, thy heart, thy works,
Thy fate is a long sacrifice to the gods
Till they have opened to thee thy secret self
And made thee one with the indwelling God..
O soul, intruder in Nature's ignorance,
Armed traveller to the unseen supernal heights,
Thy spirit's fate is a battle and ceaseless march
Against invisible opponent Powers,
A passage from Matter into timeless self.

NB:

"In all living beings, there is a soul, who resides in the background, not easily known or realized. The soul presides over the living being, but somewhat inactively, in the background. The Soul does not generally participate in the Evolution.

In the Evolution from the animals to the human beings, there has been no active role of the Soul, though the Divine Will was ever active. … … …

However, in Man, there is an active part or aspect of the Soul, which is termed by Sri Aurobindo as the Psychic Being, which participates in the Evolution of Man, in the onward journey of the human being on the Path of Evolution into the higher beings, the supramental beings, towards the Manifestation of the Supramental Consciousness, the next phase of the Evolution. The Psychic is not present in any other living beings.

Sri Aurobindo adopted the term "psychic being" for the word soul is vaguely used :

"The word soul is very vaguely used in English- as it often refers to the whole non-physical consciousness including even the vital with all its desires and passions. That is why the word psychic being has to be used so as to distinguish this divine portion from the instrumental parts of the nature.' "

16. Do not, like so many modern disputants, smother thought under polysyllables or charm inquiry to sleep by the spell of formulas and cant words.
Search always; find out the reason for things which seem to the hasty glance to be mere chance or illusion.

Many intellectuals, in the present days of Philosophy and Science and thinking, have covered thought within one or two or a few words, consisting a few syllables. And the covering has been such that it suppressed and throttled thought so as to stop its further progress towards the real Discovery of Truth.

And they have also mesmerized enquiry into sleep by using some formulæ or a few words. So, thought is silenced and enquiry is stopped. Questioned in the mind are lulled. A real and complete search, a deep and genuine seeking, is not there: only, there are half-seeking, with easy-going and stop-gap arrangements.

Whatever seems to us to be chance or illusion, whatever we patent or name as chance or illusion, may not be really so. There must be some reason behind their existence. There must be some meaning of whatever we label as chance or illusion.

The Mother has said, while interpreting Sri Aurobindo, that the mind has several levels or zones or regions from the ordinary physical mind to the higher mind, which receives the rays of the Supramental Light in the form of intuitions. One of these regions is the mind that uses ‘practical reason’ which termed otherwise as commonsense.

Often the mind of practical reason or commonsense inconclusively concludes some mental searches or enquiries or discussions and labels them with some ‘polysyllables,’ as stated by Sri Aurobindo.

The Mother puts it beautifully:
“To this region of practical reason belong the ‘polysyllables’ of which Sri Aurobindo speaks, the commonplaces or clichés, all the readymade phrases which run about in the mental atmosphere from one brain to another and which people repeat when they want to appear knowledgeable, or when they think themselves wise.”

Words such as illusion, hallucination or chance are examples of such polysyllables. Some phenomena which cannot be explained or understood are referred to as illusions or hallucinations or chances. There, at that level or region of mind, further search or enquiry is stopped, for the phenomena concerned are explained away. For, the human consciousness at its present general level is partial and superficial and confined by man himself to the gross limits of the physical mind.

That is the reason why Sri Aurobindo has said: “Search always”. We should continue the enquiry, continue to find out the real answers to our questions, the inner questions. According to Sri Aurobindo, the World is real. If it appears to us to be unreal or an illusion or a falsehood, it is then the lack of a true search and a true realization. The search must go on, till we find the One by which all live and exist:

A pure existence safe from thought and mood,
A consciousness of unshared immortal bliss,
It dwelt aloof in its bare infinite,
One and unique, unutterably sole.
A Being formless, featureless and mute
That knew itself by its own timeless self,
Aware for ever in its motionless depths,
Uncreating, uncreated and unborn,
The One by whom all live, who lives by none,
An immeasurable luminous secrecy
Guarded by the veils of the Unmanifest,
Above the changing cosmic interlude
Abode supreme, immutably the same,
A silent Cause occult, impenetrable,--
Infinite, eternal, unthinkable, alone.

The Pioneers

The Earth, along with the humanity, is moving and progressing towards a vast and complete Transformation, towards a New Step in the Evolution on earth towards the emergence of a New Race on earth. And the Pioneers are Sri Aurobindo and The Mother [Mirra Alfassa].

Sri Aurobindo stated that Man is a transitional being, who will have to be transformed, collectively, towards the formation of a New Race. His appearance in the human race is one of the biggest events that has taken place in the history of the Earth.

When The Mother met Sri Aurobindo for the first time, She wrote :

"Gradually the horizon becomes distinct, the path grows clear, and we move towards a greater and greater certitude.
It matters little that there are thousands of beings plunged in the densest ignorance, He whom we saw yesterday is on earth ; his presence is enough to prove that a day will come when darkness shall be transformed into light, and Thy reign shall be indeed established upon earth.
O Lord, Divine Builder of this marvel, my heart overflows with joy and gratitude when I think of it, and my hopes have no bounds.
My adoration is beyond all words, my reverence is silent."—The Mother, Prayers and Meditations.

These were the words from The Mother, who joined Sri Aurobindo and organized Sri Aurobindo Ashram at Pondicherry. She came from France to Pondicherry, India, and met Sri Aurobindo on the 29th day of March, 1914. These were the words from her on her first meeting with Sri Aurobindo, recorded on the next day.

These words are self-explanatory. The existence of Sri Aurobindo gives rise to the boundless hope that, one day, the Divine reign shall be on earth and that darkness shall be transformed into light. Sri Aurobindo is the Hope of Man, in spite of the fact that multitudes of human beings are plunged in the densest darkness and ignorance. Prayers of millions of human beings through millennia have been answered by the Supreme in the form of Sri Aurobindo

Often, a few persons have stated that Sri Aurobindo is not unquestionable and that an Avatar may not always be above the ordinary human level. These persons also express their belief that there is a Higher Consciousness that does not even recognize the Sri Aurobindo or The Mother or any other Avatar.

I know and believe that Sri Aurobindo is unquestionable. Question belongs to a mind that is in ignorance. It comes from doubt, half-knowledge, ignorance and un-receptivity.
A question may also come from a seeking, from a seeker. But that is from a mind that seeks to drift from Darkness to Light.

When a Person like Sri Aurobindo becomes questionable to someone, then there is some error somewhere in the consciousness of the person so questioning. Because generally ordinary human beings are fallible in their habits and character and nature, and then a question crops up. When someone has the firm belief and conviction that a man cannot be perfect, that a man cannot be above the animal frailties, then only one has the doubts and questions!

Sri Aurobindo did not come on earth to live like a common man, though definitely he was born amidst us. Whenever someone like Peter Heeh or anybody else has expressed that there is some questionability in the Person or character of Sri Aurobindo, I feel that such tendency is certainly there in the mind of the questioner.

When we go through the several spiritual treatises on Yoga given to us by the ancient India, we find that one has to undergo a Sadhana of self-discipline and self-mastery, before one can go beyond the ordinary mental level. We know of yama and niyama of Patanjali Yoga. When we find Sri Aurobindo attained Nirvana within three days of starting the yogic Sadhana, how can we ever assume that He was a questionable Person! And He is the First human being who has realized the Supermind, reached the Supermind, and then lived for forty years thereafter, whereas it was known that generally a man can generally live for a few days only after having touched the supramental level. A person with a questionable character and personality cannot have such a miraculous record of spiritual height. The question about the questionability of Sri Aurobindo comes only when there is doubt and ignorance in the mind. To know truly a Person like Sri Aurobindo, one has to rise above doubt and ignorance.

Can there be any Avatar who is not recognized by a Higher Consciousness? What is an Avatar? It is the Descent of the Highest Consciousness itself. So, can the Highest Consciousness de-recognize any Person who is Himself having a Descent on earth? It is the Divine Will that causes the Appearance of a Person named Sri Aurobindo, who begins the New Way that would lead humanity beyond itself towards the New Race. Sri Aurobindo is bringer of the New Age, that will put an end to all Darkness and Death and Divisions and Ignorance, all Sorrows and Sufferings from the surface of the Earth. If any Consciousness is there that seems to de-recognize The Mother and Sri Aurobindo, it is then a Consciousness belonging to Tamas itself. It is, as I find, is rather a mental deformation that is obstinate.

Sri Aurobindo has said :
Surely for the earth-consciousness the very fact that the Divine manifests himself is the greatest of all splendours. Consider the obscurity here and what it would be if the Divine did not directly intervene and the Light of Lights did not break out of the obscurity – for that is the meaning of the manifestation….
It is the omnipresent cosmic Divine who supports the action of the universe; if there is an Incarnation, it does not in the least diminish the cosmic Presence and the cosmic action in the three or thirty million universes.
The Descending Power (Avatar) chooses its own place, body, time for the manifestation.
The Avatar is necessary when a special work is to be done and in crises of the evolution.

Sri Aurobindo interprets as a parable of evolution the Hindu idea of the procession of the ten Avatars. Vishnu the Supreme Godhead makes a progressive series of incarnations, so that — to take for our immediate purpose the human portion of the traditional sequence — He who was Vamana (the Dwarf Avatar, the Divine in the primitive and mainly physical human stage) becomes afterwards ParasuRama ("Rama of the Axe", the Divine in the kinetic or vitalistic phase of humanity) and then Rama, son of Dasaratha (the Divine as the mental Man, the embodiment of Dharma, the perfect Moral Consciousness) and, again, Krishna (the Divine as the "Overman", openly exemplifying a more-than-mental Consciousness, what Sri Aurobindo calls the Overmind, the world of the Great Gods) and, later, Buddha who shoots beyond the cosmic formula to the sheer Transcendent but to that Transcendent's absolutely immobile aspect (Nirvana, an indescribable Permanence void of all that we know as existence, or, in positive Vedantic nomenclature, Nirguna Brahman, Silent Qualityless Eternal Being) and, finally, Kalki who will come to set right the balance by bringing the Transcendent's power to base on the Transcendent's peace a new earth-order, a terrestrial Heaven. I do not think that there should be any further need to emphasize that the Supreme, the Highest Consciousness has any reason to de-recognize or to fail to recognize any Avatar, for the Avatar is the Divine Himself.

15. That which men term a hallucination is the reflection in the mind and senses of that which is beyond our ordinary mental & sensory perceptions. Superstition arises from the mind's wrong understanding of these reflections. There is no other hallucination.

That which is beyond “ordinary mental & sensory perceptions,” when reflected in the mind and the senses, the reflection is termed by the people a “hallucination,” meaning a false illusion.

But that is, indeed, a wrong understanding, a wrong approach, as Sri Aurobindo explains. As He has said, what is termed as a hallucination, indicating an illusion, is not really an illusion or falsehood. We have earlier seen that He has described that the word “hallucination” as a scientific term refers to some irregular glimpses of truths which are ordinarily closed and shut to us, as we are preoccupied with matter. That is an experience of something that is beyond the mind and the senses. The experience by an unprepared mind and the unprepared senses gives a wrong impression, a wrong understanding, and it creates on repetition, in due course of time, a superstition. Had the truth or some of its aspects been correctly understood and sincerely realized, then it would neither have been termed a hallucination or an illusion. As Sri Aurobindo has said, “superstitions” are the results of the wrong understanding of the reflections of the mind and the senses. In reality, there is nothing else which can be termed “hallucinations” and the seeker of Truth should prepare himself to go beyond the wrong understanding.

Our preparations can lead us from the hallucinations to the Visions. There is a great difference between a hallucination and a Vision. Visions are what the human consciousness may experience, when it is prepared, aware or awakened, and sincere.

The Mother was asked a question: Can hallucinations be compared to visions?

In answering the question, The Mother says: “When a human being is sufficiently developed, he possesses an individualized vital being, with organs of sight, hearing smell etc. So a person who has a well-developed vital being can see in the vital world with his vital sight, consciously and with the memory of what he has seen.”

The Mother further says: “It is the same for all the subtle worlds — vital, mental, Overmental, supramental — and for all the intermediate worlds and planes of the being. In this way, one can have visions that are vital, mental, Overmental, supramental etc.”

So, one has to grow in awareness, in consciousness, in a true spiritual individuality, in all sincerity, and then one has visions of the Worlds, beyond the Reason, beyond the mind and the senses. And the higher one ascends, nearer one is to the Supreme Truth.

Thus the human being, with his consciousness and thought, can go beyond himself, through a progressive preparation, through silence, awareness and receptivity, and then have the visions of the higher worlds.

For Thought transcends the circles of mortal mind,
It is greater than its earthly instrument:
The godhead crammed into mind's narrow space
Escapes on every side into some vast
That is a passage to infinity.
It moves eternal in the spirit's field,
A runner towards the far spiritual light,
A child and servant of the spirit's force.
But mind too falls back from a nameless peak.
His being stretched beyond the sight of Thought.
For the spirit is eternal and unmade
And not by thinking was its greatness born,
And not by thinking can its knowledge come.
It knows itself and in itself it lives,
It moves where no thought is nor any form.

However, one may have a piercing but a synthesizing reason, with soaring thoughts and ideas, or one may have many series of visions from the vital and mental planes or even from the planes of the higher levels of mind, but that is not sufficient. A question will be there, in the words of M P Pandit : “It is when all ceases that there is something.”

He further says: “We are all the time seeing things with the physical eye, the mental eye and some with still another eye. There is a constant procession of images leaving the being no scope at all to see the reality of things.” [Dialogues and Perspectives, M P Pandit.]

The Aim should be to know the Unknown, to see and realize the Unseen, the Alone, so that one can become Oneself.

Sri Aurobindo, the Supramental Pioneer, has described that the word “hallucination” as a scientific term refers to some irregular glimpses of truths which are closed and shut out to us, as we are preoccupied with matter. These glimpses of truths are called “hallucinations” by the materialists, the scientists and those who believe that matter is the sole and only reality.

Sri Aurobindo enquired, with His reach in the height and depth of Consciousness, about a hallucination and found that it is subjective and psychic experience about some thing, about some truth, which does not correspond with any objective or any reality which can be sensed by the senses or which can be described as physical.

The meaning of the word “hallucination” in the dictionary is that it is an objectless perception. The meaning of the word as per The Free Dictionary is given below for reference:
1.
a. Perception of visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, or gustatory experiences without an external stimulus and with a compelling sense of their reality, usually resulting from a mental disorder or as a response to a drug.
b. The objects or events so perceived.
2. A false or mistaken idea; a delusion.

It is also explained there as the experience of seeming to see something that is not really there.

According to Sri Aurobindo, reason, being bound to he experiences of the senses, shuts itself to the various aspects of truths. Many aspects of Truth are not open to “reason” as we have trained and limited our mental consciousness and perception, our reason, accordingly. But the higher aspects of Truth often cross the borders erected by our mind, limited and narrow, and we have the glimpses of Truth. But they are often termed as hallucinations by those who have the limited view and understanding.

Sri Aurobindo sarcastically remarked that “reason” is miraculous, as turns the experiences of aspects of truths as falsehood, naming them as “hallucinations”.

Similarly, as per dictionary, “coincidence” means something that is unconscious and the result of some chance. But in reality, according to Sri Aurobindo, it is a touch by the Supreme Artist, the Divine, That has designed and created this world, ‘planned and executed’ this world. The Supreme as an Artist gives often a curious touch and His Consciousness is the wonderful canvas of the Painter!

12. They proved to me by convincing reasons that God did not exist, and I believed them. Afterwards I saw God, for He came and embraced me. And now which am I to believe, the reasonings of others or my own experience ?

In the history of human thinking, reason has sometimes tried to prove the non-existence of God. And that is what Sri Aurobindo has referred to in this Aphorism. As we know some schools of thinkers have tried to lead us to conclude that God does not exist. There are some atheists, some non-believers, and also some are there who reason that God is beyond human reason — which can neither prove nor disprove the existence of God.

Human mind can prove and disprove anything. The Mother has said in this regard: “You can prove anything with the mind. When you know how to use it and have mastered reasoning and deduction, you can prove anything.”

Indeed, Mind can prove something — as a thesis — and disprove it also and prove its opposite — as an antithesis — and therefore, it is better to turn towards the synthesis. Synthesis is the best approach of Mind towards Truth.

Mind, through Reason, can approach Truth in the way of synthesis. But Mind, untouched by any higher Consciousness, untouched by the Realization of the Supreme Truth, cannot reach the Troth of Reality through Reason.

Sri Aurobindo speaks of God having to come to Him and embracing Him. Sri Aurobindo saw God as God came to Him and embraced Him.

In simple words, He has spoken of the Supreme experience of Man. He saw God — experienced the Divine through His Vision. God came to Him — Man cannot realize the Highest Consciousness unless the Highest comes own, descends to the human stage of consciousness — He responds to the human Call and comes to him. Sri Aurobindo, though Himself the Divine incarnate, represented the Mankind to call the Divine, to aspire for the Divine. And God embraced Sri Aurobindo. God’s coming to Man is unlike another being’s coming to him. Indeed, the Divine is already involved and hidden in Man, as the Psychic Being. When the Highest Consciousness comes to us as a Person, there is no more of difference, no more of any distance. Man knows the Divine and becomes the Divine — he will have his individuality, but there will be no distance, no separation, and no difference from the Supreme Being. And that is God’s embrace.

This experience, this Realization, is something that reasoning Mind, as such, cannot reach — but when there is this Realization, this Embrace by a Consciousness, higher than any Plane in the mental system, namely the Supramental Consciousness, then obviously Mind is touched and even transformed. And Mind moves, not only by thesis and antithesis, but by Synthesis. One of the earliest and greatest examples thereof is The Synthesis of Yoga. Through a Synthesis, originated from the Highest Consciousness, the transformed Mind reached the Idea: All life is Yoga.

Some “others” may still continue with the rational conclusion that there is no God, or any other similar conclusion of the incomplete and imperfect consciousness of the ordinary mind. Though the Person, who is embraced by the Divine, knows that the external differences between him and the “others” are but superficial and not real, not fundamental, still the “others” may have no such Realization and Experience and they may continue with their rational journey. They may not accept the Truth unveiled and realized by the Person embraced by the Divine. But the Person having the Divine Realization is firm and confirmed in the authenticity of the Truth reached.

If you move one step towards the Divine, He then comes down towards you with more steps. For, your transformation is part of the Divine’s Work. When you are transformed, it is then a step of progress in the Divine’s Work. But if we are not sincere and true to ourselves, the Experience will be far away.

But even if one is a non-believer, if the Divine wants, one will have the Realization, the Experience. The Mother has said:
“Someone has asked me, ‘How is it possible for God to reveal Himself to an unbeliever?’ That is very funny; because if it pleases God to reveal Himself to an unbeliever, I don’t see what would prevent Him from doing so!”

It is indeed our task to evolve beyond reason so that we may not for ever grope in our half-darkness (and half-light) and in our uncertainties and probabilities and in the deductions and inductions of our never-sure logical endeavors.

To be illogical is no wisdom. But to be logical at the cost of the Real Truth and at the cost of the Realization is also no wisdom.

Ninety-five years back, on the 29th day of March, 1914, Mirra Alfassa, later known as The Mother, met Sri Aurobindo. She wrote in Prayers and Meditations on the next day:

Gradually the horizon becomes distinct, the path grows clear, and we move towards a greater and greater certitude.
It matters little that there are thousands of beings plunged in the densest ignorance, He whom we saw yesterday is on earth; his presence is enough to prove that a day will come when darkness shall be transformed into light, and Thy reign shall be indeed established upon earth.
O Lord, Divine Builder of this marvel, my heart overflows with joy and gratitude when I think of it, and my hope has no bounds.
My adoration is beyond all words, my reverence is silent.

If we see from a truly historical viewpoint, unbiased and liberated from the ordinary way of thinking and understanding, we will realize that this has been a day of the greatest possible significance and importance for the mankind and its future, for the earth and its future.

They are the two Persons who realized the Supermind and caused the Descent of the Supramental Consciousness. Prior to Them, none else endeavored for reaching or bringing down the Supramental Consciousness. The words the Supramental Consciousness or Supermind were first used and defined by Sri Aurobindo. He also used the words Gnosis and Truth-Consciousness mean Supermind. But the Idea or the conception was not quite new. According to Sri Aurobindo, the Vedas contain the gospels of the divine and immortal Supermind in a concealed way.

In Taittiriya Upanishad, it has been said: Annam brahma — the Matter is Brahman. [Annam brahmeti vyājanat — he knew the Matter to be the Eternal Absolute] Likewise, it is also said there: prāno [Life] brahma, mano [Mind] brahma, vijnānam brahma and ānandam [Bliss] brahma. Vijnana is Supermind. Supermind is also termed rtachit or Truth-Consciousness.

In this regard, M Alan Kazlev says: "Vijnana loka" is the Supermind proper - in Sri Aurobindo's reading of the Taittiriya Upanishad, vijnana is not intuitive or inner mind as it is in the conventional vedantic (especially advaitin) interpretation in terms of koshas, but the Supramental purusha which is still to be actualized, and will be as part of the process of Supramentalization. It may be emphasized that not much of efforts were made, earlier to Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, to reach Supermind or to cause its Descent on earth. It was said that on reaching and realizing the height of Vijnana, the Supramental Consciousness, one’s body would not last more than forty days.

Possibly, the human body was not yet then ready for the Adventure. But now things have changed, after the Supramental Descent on earth, caused by The Mother on the 29th day of February 1956.

It was an adventurous action on the part of Sri Aurobindo that He reached, realized and received the Supramental Consciousness that descended on the 5th day of December 1950. And He did so at the cost of His physical Existence.

Sri Aurobindo states that Supermind is the creator of the universe, and not any Overmental God or Force.
Sri Aurobindo has also described the nature of Supermind to be an ultimate knowledge and knowing power. According to Him, Mind is a lesser power of Supermind and is derived from the latter. However, Mind is a plane necessary in the Evolution, as designed by the Supreme Consciousness. He also says that the human beings are capable of experiencing and realizing the ultimate cognitive and creative capacity that Supermind is.

He also states that through Evolution of consciousness, Man can rise from Mind to a higher, spiritualized Mind [namely, the Higher Mind, the Illumined Mind, the Intuitive Mind and Overmind] and even further, until he reaches and realizes the Supramental.

In the onward journey of Ascension, before reaching the Supramental Consciousness, generally, one has to realize and surpass the various planes of Mind, as described above, — from the Higher Mind to Overmind. According to Sri Aurobindo, Overmind is the plane of Gods and Goddesses. This is the highest consciousness within the mental system. As Man progresses higher and higher in Consciousness, he has the scope of experiencing and surpassing these planes of Mind, until he reaches Overmind. And thereafter, there comes the possibility of the Supramental Realization and Descent and Transformation. If we rise in consciousness, we can grow and develop the supramental capacity of knowledge. Moreover, as a consequence of acquiring the capacity for integral knowledge, we will have the infinite capacity to create in life, just as Supermind itself is able to do as the Creator.

Sri Aurobindo’s departure was a Sacrifice for the noblest cause of letting the Supramental Consciousness and Force descend on earth for the Supramentalization of the earth-consciousness and for evolutionary progress beyond Man, so that the earth changes from a vale of tears to an abode of Joy and Light and creativity. That was the beginning.

In the words of K D Sethna, the physical departure of Sri Aurobindo “reveals itself as an extreme measure freely adopted, for reasons of his own, in significant yet never dominant mortal detail by one who, after having ascended in consciousness to a new and hitherto unmanifested power of the Divine Reality, sought to effect a descent of it for earth's complete perfection, including a transformation of the very body of man. The spiritual perfectionist found at a critical turn of his battle with entrenched powers of darkness in earth's being that to take his own semi-transformed body through the process of a death at once normal and supernormal was a paradoxical short-cut towards the revolutionary evolution of humanity into divinity that was his aim.” [Emphasis is mine.]

The Departure of Sri Aurobindo effected a realization of a New Consciousness and Force in the very Person of The Mother: the Mind of Light got realized in Her. And that caused to open the doors of the greatest Hope for Mankind: the Hope for the Supramentalization.

The Mother says:

"As soon as Sri Aurobindo withdrew from his body, what he has called the Mind of Light got realised in me."
"The Supermind had descended long ago - very long ago - into the mind and even into the vital: it was working in the physical also but indirectly through those intermediaries. The question was about the direct action of the Supermind in the physical. Sri Aurobindo said it could be possible only if the physical mind received the supramental light: the physical mind was the instrument for direct action upon the most material. This physical mind receiving the supramental light Sri Aurobindo called the Mind of Light."[Emphasis is mine.]

And what has seemed to us to be The Mother’s Departure is but a transition — The Mother left Her human frame and walked into the newly formed Supramental Body, which is but an individual manifestation of the Supramental Consciousness and Force into a New Body, still invisible to the ordinary human eye.

Prior to the coming of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother on earth, these were all unheard and unattempted Ideas and Truths. The sole aim of all spiritual endeavors till then was to go back to the Origin, to have Nirvana or Moksha or to go back to the Heaven.

Sri Aurobindo and The Mother have changed the Aim, the Goal, changed the approach, and changed the Way. The Aim is a New World, where imperfections will be no more there, no more will be Darkness and inconscience and ignorance and inertia, Death and diseases and sufferings, limitations and divisions. The Goal is the New World — the Supramental World, after a total and integral transformation of the old earth and the old humanity. The approach is new, as the seeker no more thinks of any return to the Origin, of any Nirvana or Moksha, of any withdrawal from and non-participation in the Cosmic Manifestation. As we have seen, a desertion of the Society and the World, a so-called “renunciation” and relinquishment, is no more the approach and the Goal. Going back to the origin, beyond the Manifestation, renouncing the World for an individual Moksha or Nirvana is no more the Goal, the Task. And the Way is evolutionary, integral, and all-aspected. As is well-known, Sri Aurobindo has said: “All life is Yoga.”

Integral Yoga, as given to us by The Master and The Mother, is not limited to, and only begins with the individual realization.

In this connection, The Mother says: “For this transformation to succeed, all human beings — even all living beings as well as their material environment — must be transformed…. Not only an individual or a group of individuals, or even all individuals, but life…has to be transformed. Without such a transformation we shall continue having the same misery, the same calamities and the same atrocities in the world. A few individuals will escape from it by their psychic development, but the general mass will remain in the same state of misery.”

The Master has said: “Man is a transitional being.” This is because Man is an evolutionary being is a part of an Evolution. The Cosmic or Universal Manifestation is an evolution of what is involved. And what is involved is the principle of Existence-Consciousness-Bliss, Sat-chit-ānanda [Sachchidānanda], the Divine, the Brahman, the Supreme. The Existence-Consciousness-Bliss willed to become Many — “Eko-ham, bahu syāma." The Many are now manifested, through and after a long process of Evolution, as the human beings. And Man is yet to manifest in him the perfection of the Sachchidānanda, the Divine. And that is the purpose and the Aim of the New Way of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.

And it should be borne in mind that long before The Mother walked into the New Body, She has caused the Descent of the Supramental Consciousness on earth on the 29th day of February 1956, as mentioned earlier. Let me quote the oft-quoted message of The Mother from Mother's Agenda Vol.1:

First Supramental Manifestation

(During the common meditation on Wednesday
The 29th February 1956)

This evening the Divine Presence, concrete and material, was present amongst you. I had the form of a living gold, bigger than the universe, and I was facing a huge and massive golden door, which separated the world from the Divine.
As I looked at the door, I knew and willed in a single movement of consciousness, that ‘the time has come', and lifting with both hands a mighty golden hammer I struck one blow on the door and the door was shattered to pieces.
And then the supramental Light and Force and Consciousness rushed down upon earth in an uninterrupted flow.

Things are now ready or the Mankind to attain the willed pogress and transformaion. The Mankind has to arise to the occasion. The Truth of the possibility of the coming of the New Race of “Supermen” has to be accepted and lived. This is not the question of any blind faith. This is an evolutionary Truth, a scientific Truth which is also a spiritual Truth, a Truth of the Science of Consciousness.

Individually, we shall have to will for the transmutation, for the transformation of our mind, life and body — with the specific stress on the transformation of the body. For my will is the First step of the Divine’s Will, as the Master has said.

The meeting of The Master and The Mother on the 29th March 1914 has resulted with and created a Hope, the greatest possible Hope, for us — the Mankind : the Hope for a New World. That is the purpose of Their coming on earth among us, the Mankind, and that is the purpose of Their meeting.

The incarnate dual Power shall open God's door,
Eternal supermind touch earthly Time.
The superman shall wake in mortal man
And manifest the hidden demigod
Or grow into the God-Light and God-Force
Revealing the secret deity in the cave.

On this 21st day of February 2009, which happens to be the birthday anniversary of The Mother, Mira Alfassa, the spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo, let us remember Her and The Master, in Silence and in utter sincerity and faithfulness.

As we know, born in Paris on 21 February 1878, She spent the first part of her life in Paris with Her parents, who had settled down in France a year before Her birth.

In her early years, She was conscious of the special purpose of Her life, of Her mission on earth. From the age of five She became conscious that She was not of this world and did not have a human consciousness.

Around 1905-06, She came in contact with Max Theon and Madame Theon, who lived in Tlemcen in Algeria around 1905-06. Max Theon was an Occultist of the highest and rarest order. She met Sri Aurobindo in Pondicherry on 29th March 1914. She left Pondicherry in February 1915 and proceeded to France and Japan. Later, on 24th April, 1920, She returned to Pondicherry for ever. Thereafter in Pondicherry, Sri Aurobindo Ashram was formed and She became known as The Mother.

Sri Aurobindo, whom millions throughout the world have already hailed as an Incarnation of the Divine, had specifically said that 'the One whom we adore as The Mother,' has also descended and became manifest before us on earth. He referred to Mira Alfassa, and millions on earth adore Her as The Mother.
Questions may be, or rather, have been asked : Who is this Mother? What is this Principle of The Mother? How is this Principle related to the Supreme, to the Divine?
The Ultimate Reality is the Infinite and One Existence-Consciousness-Bliss, whom we have termed as the Brahman, the Divine, the Supreme. The Supreme Divine is the One, Indivisible, Infinite and Pure Existence, who has three aspects, the Transcendental, the Universal and the Individual. In the Transcendental mode, He is the Source of and is also above all manifestation, all the Universes, all the worlds. As the Supreme, He bears the eternal consciousness in Him, above all Time and Space. He is described as the Existence-Consciousness-Bliss, as it is already stated, as sachchidananda. He is Existence, eternal existence, and can even become Non-Existence, beyond the apprehension of any manifested existence.

In the Universal mode, He is one with the Universes, though He is above them and is their Creator and Origin. As the Supreme, who is both Impersonal and Personal, He is the Source and Origin of all that is, of the Universe, or rather the Universes. Though He has no form and no shape, He is the Source and Creator of all forms and shapes. He has become all this Universe, or rather all these universes. He is the Manifestation and the One who manifests. It is His Will that manifests and is manifested. He is the entire Manifestation. And it is His Leela, Play. He is beyond it, and also within it. He is in each atom, in each living being. And He is also the Individual, Personal God. All the Avatars are but His Individual Manifestations.
The Supreme is with His Creative and Conscious Force, the Mahashakti, who is the Divine Mother. They are One and Indivisible, and yet They are Two in Manifestation and even above and beyond Manifestation.

As we have discussed, Sri Aurobindo has said about The Mother :
"The One whom we adore as The Mother is the Divine Cobscious Force that dominates all existence, one and yet so many-sided that to follow her movement is impossible even for the quickest mind and for the freest and most vast intelligence."Sri Aurobindo has also said
:"Her embodiment is a chance for the earth-consciousness to receive the Supramental into it and to undergo first the transformation necessary for that to be possible."She is, therefore, so highly and uniquely valuable for the mankind and for the earth. "She is the golden bridge ...," says Sri Aurobindo in Savitri. In fact, She is “the golden bridge” which will enable us, and is enabling us, Her children, to cross the difference and the distance between Mind and Supermind. She is the Force that enables Man and the earth to leap beyond and pass over the gulf of difference between Mind and the Supramental Consciousness, between Darkness and Ignorance and Falsehood on the one hand and on the other hand Light and Wisdom and Truth, and The New Creation. She is enabling us to walk on The New Way. She is enabling us, Her children, to walk towards The New Horizon.

The Mother said
:"Throughout all this life, knowingly or unknowingly, I have been what the Lord wanted me to be, I have done what the Lord wanted me to do, I have done what the Lord wanted me to do. That alone matters."
She has also said :
"Since, the beginning of the earth, wherever and whenever there was the possibility of manifesting a ray of Consciousness, I was there."
And She has also shown us the Way, the most sublime Way:
"You have to aspire, you have to reject; but the best is if you can keep me in your heart, if you love me, then you will have to do nothing. I shall do all for you."
That is the best Way.

She has given us the Hope, She is the Hopr for us all.
And let us remember always what She has told us to march ahead towards the Goal:
"Let us advance always, without stopping, towards an always more complete manifestation, an always more complete and higher consciousness."

The Mother and Sri Aurobindo have been carrying on the Evolution. They were here — and They are here — in order to carry on the Evolution. Evolution is now at a new and decisive stage, at a turning point, when there will come the end of the reign of Darkness and Ignorance, with the emergence of the Light, of Truth-Consciousness.

As narrated by Sujata in Mother’s Chronicles, Book One, a question asked to Sri Aurobindo about what He and The Mother were doing in Their many births on earth. Sri Aurobindo had replied : “Carrying on the evolution.”

Out of ignorance, disbelief and blasphemy, someone has asked about Sri Aurobindo:

“How many dead people did he raise back to life, and how many blind did he heal, And how many demons did he cast out, and how many people did he die for to pay for their debt of sin? Please inform us of all his good works and powerful supernatural miracles.”

My answer is as follows:

The entire mankind lives in death — the people all around are in death. They are born in Death, in unconsciousness, or at best in very partial half-consciousness., in ignorance. We are asleep in Death, at best half-awakened. And Sri Aurobindo and The Mother have lived for bringing for us the Life Eternal. They have endeavoured for leading the mankind beyond Death, in the Way of the Supramental Transformation. They have made everything ready, so that Man will conquer Death, physically, really, for ever, in a new consciousness, in a transformed existence. The reign of Death will be over. And the Journey to the new deathless Horizon has already started. For the First time in the history of earthly Evolution, there has been a real Step taken in order to conquer and transcend Death. Sri Aurobindo and The Mother taking us with Them beyond Death. They are raising us to a deathless existence and a deathless consciousness. The Mind could not conquer Death for us, but now the Hope is there, for we will reach the Supermind, in our journey on the New Way, and the mankind will raised out of Death, really.

The entire mankind lives in blindness — the people all around are in blindness. They are born in Darkness and Tamas. There is no Light, or at best, there is only very partial half-light. And Sri Aurobindo and The Mother have lived for bringing for us the Eternal Light. They have endeavoured for leading the mankind beyond Darkness and Ignorance and blindness, in the Way of the Supramental Transformation. They have made everything ready, so that Man will conquer Darkness for ever, in a new consciousness, in a transformed existence. The reign of Darkness will be over. The entire mankind has been living with demons — the demons of death and darkness and division and ignorance, of cravings and desires, of disbelief and doubt, of envy and greed and hatred, of jealousy, of lust, and so many other demond. The Mind could not conquer these demons, could not cast them out. Now that we will reach Supermind, in our journey on the New Way, these demons will evaporate, really. And the Leaders for our journey on the New Way are Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.

And all these Works that They have done for us and now doing for us are the greatest of all miracles, ever shown here on earth.

The Descent on 24th November

Prefatory:

I came across a web application named Conspirama [http://conspirama.com/], wherein there has been published an article named “PROPHECIES COMING TRUE: BIG BANG VS SPIRITUAL SCIENCE EXPERIMENT ... “” written by one Shankarlal. What interested me is a reference to Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, or rather, the misrepresentations about Them.
Let me quote what have been the misrepresentations :

“Both Sri Aurobindo and Mother, fired by altruistic zeal to save mankind from imminent annihilation, dedicated themselves to most arduous practice of yoga for years to prepare spiritual environment conducive to such descent. Their dedication bore fruit. On November 24, 1926, the Mother announced to a small group of Sri Aurobindo’s disciples, that, Krishna’s supramental force had descended on earth and assumed a human form. It was the day on which Guru Siyag was born.

“Sri Aurobindo and Mother were convinced that the person, who was thus chosen for the manifestation of the Krishna consciousness in the physical world, would himself undergo the last three stages of ‘Anand’, ‘Chit’ and ‘Sat’. The chosen one’s mission would be to bring about the kind spiritual evolution that he has undergone himself. Sri Aurobindo and Mother were also convinced that if one man on earth underwent complete spiritual revolution, it was practically possible for millions of others to experience this divine transformation, by following the same method. They were aware of the evolution of the Chosen one to be subject to all the trial and tribulations that are part of every human life.”

“They knew that eventually the chosen one would be made fully conscious of his real mission on earth. This happened in 1969 when Guru Siyag achieved the Gayatri Siddhi in the wee hours of a winter morning in a Rajasthan town. He was engulfed in the divine light of the supramental force, changing his life forever. In the distant coastal town of Pondichery in southern India, Mother, who was always connected with cosmic consciousness, instantly received the vibrations of this momentous happening. She simply said her own mission was complete, as Krishna’s supramental force had become active that day.

“Given below is an excerpt from Mother’s writings of the vision she saw: “November 26/27, 1968: Powerful and prolonged infiltration of supramental forces into the “body” everywhere at the same time, as though the whole body “bathed” in the forces that entered everywhere at the same time with a slight friction, the head down to the neck was the last receptive region. In 1969, on the 1st January 1969 at two o'clock in the morning a consciousness descended into the earth's atmosphere and “settled” there. It was a most marvelous descent, full of light, force, power, joy and peace and suffused the ‘whole’ earth.”

A perusal of the above quotes will be sufficient to see how the reference are being made to Sri Aurobindo and The Mother in order to prove and enhance the credibility of the so-called spiritual greatness of someone else, about whom none of the followers and devotees ever heard as long as they were physically and visibly present on earth.

The Day of Victory : 24th November 1926

Indeed, Sri Aurobindo had a very great Realization on the 26th November 1926. It was declared as the Siddhi Divas, the Day of Victory. The Mother [Mira Alfassa] said in this regard :

The 24th November is called the day of Victory in remembrance of a very important spiritual event which took place in 1926.

In this regard, Sri Aurobindo stated:
It was the descent of Krishna into physical.

Sri Aurobindo further stated in this matter:
“Krishna is not the supramental Light. The descent of Krishna would mean the descent of the Overmind Godhead preparing, though not itself actually, the descent of Supermind and Ananda. Krishna is the Anandamaya; he supports the evolution through the Overmind leading it towards the Ananda.”

On 24th November 1926, in the evening, Sri Aurobindo came out from his room, which was seen by the Mother. She could immediately know that ‘something important has happened in the History of the Earth and Universe’. She called and asked for all the sadhaks to assemble in the upper verandah of the Library House of the Ashram building. By 6 PM, there were all the twenty four Sadhaks assembled there including Barin, Nolini, Champaklal, Amrita, Pavitra, Purani, Datta.

Purani has described the event as follows :
“There was a deep silence in the atmosphere after the disciples had gathered there. Many saw an oceanic flood of Light rushing down from above. Everyone present felt a kind of pressure above his head. The whole atmosphere was surcharged with some electrical energy. In that silence ..... the usual, yet on this day unusual, tick was heard behind the door of the entrance. Expectation rose in flood. Sri Aurobindo and The Mother could be seen through the half closed door. The Mother with a gesture of her eyes requested Sri Aurobindo to step out first. Sri Aurobindo with a similar gesture suggested to her to do the same. With a slow dignified step the Mother came out first, followed by Sri Aurobindo with his majestic gait.... The Mother sat on a small stool to his right.

Silence absolute, living silence- not merely living but out flowing with divinity. The meditation lasted about forty-five minutes. After that one by one the disciple bowed to the Mother.
She and Sri Aurobindo gave blessings to them. Whenever a disciple bowed to the Mother, Sri Aurobindo's right hand came forward behind the Mother's as if blessing him through the Mother. After the blessings, in the same silence there was a short meditation.
In the interval of silent meditation and blessings many had distinct experiences... it was certain that a Higher Consciousness had descended on earth...

Sri Aurobindo and The Mother went inside.

Immediately Datta was inspired. In that silence she spoke:
‘The Lord has descended into the physical today.’
Datta evidently spoke in a mood of ecstasy. But what she said has been recorded in different ways by some of those present there.”

Misrepresentations:

Thus, it is not a fact that on 24-11-1926, Krishna’s supramental force had descended on earth and assumed a human form.

As Sri Aurobindo has told, Krishna’s force that descended on earth on 24-11-1926 was not a supramental force; it was the descent of the Overmind force. Its purpose was preparing the earth and the atmosphere for the Descent of the Supermind, which took place on 29-02-1056. The force of Krishna was NOT and NEVER the supramental force, as claimed by writer of the article, Shankarlal, a follower of Guru Siyag. That is the first misrepresentation.

Secondly it has been told in the concerned article that on 24-11-1926, Krishna’s force assumed a human form. However, Sri Aurobindo stated: “It was the descent of Krishna into physical”.

Neither He nor The Mother, nor any of the disciples did ever state that Krishna’s force assumed a human form. None of Them did ever state that Krishna was reborn in a human shape. And that was never necessary for Their Work : The Supramental Descent and Transformation. The descent of Krishna into the physical does not mean the assuming of a human form; it means the descent into the physical consciousness on earth, for it’s preparation for it’s further evolution.
In fact, virtually the work of the descended overmind consciousness of Krishna was over, when the Supramental Consciousness descended on earth on 29-02-1956. Thus, that Sri Aurobindo stated that Krishna’s consciousness assumed a human form was the second misrepresentation.

Thirdly, neither Sri Aurobindo nor The Mother had ever said that Their endeavour would cause the descent of any Chosen One on earth. They aimed for the Supramental descent and transformation and creation, after which Sri Aurobindo himself will be born as the first supramental baing in the first supramental body. And in the mean time there wil be no Chosen One. In Their entire literature, there is NO such statement. Thus, speaking of the Chosen One is the third misrepresentation.

With reference to The Mother’s experiences on 27th November 1968 and the 1st November 1968, what the writer has stated we will see below.

It is said that on the Ist Janusry 1969, Guru Siyag “was engulfed in the divine light of the supramental force, changing his life forever. In the distant coastal town of Pondichery in southern India, Mother, who was always connected with cosmic consciousness, instantly received the vibrations of this momentous happening. instantly received the vibrations of this momentous happening. She simply said her own mission was complete, as Krishna’s supramental force had become active that day.”

The Mother has never said so — never has She declared that Her mission was complete. Her mission will be complete only when the Supramental Manifestation will be visibly realised on earth. And that will be, for She has assured us of that. To say that The Mother’s mission was complete, because of some realization by Guru Siyag, is a statement unsupported by any saying or writing by The Mother or by any of Her closest disciples like Nolinida, Champakla, Amalkiran, Madhav Pandit, Satprem or any body else. It has no basis at all. I am not stating Guru Siyag did not have the experiences — he might have the experiences, but their relationship with The Mother’s experiences is unfounded.

And the Supramental force became active on 29th February 1956 and not on ISt January 1969. A new consciousness — the Superman Consciousness — desended on that day. What happened on that day was that the suparemantal force — not the One that descended on 24-11-1926 — came closer to us , through The Mother. What happened on 1st January 1969 was not the Last and Final step taken by The Mother — and we refer to Her sayings or writings, NONE ELSE had spoken of coming face to face with the Superman Consciousness at that time.

Thus, to say that being conscious of some experience by Guru Siyag, The Mother said that Her mission was complete, is the fourth misrepresentation.

One Man’s Perfection

Even if the struggling world is left outside
One man's perfection still can save the world.
There is won a new proximity to the skies,
A first betrothal of the Earth to Heaven,
A deep concordat between Truth and Life:
A camp of God is pitched in human time.
[Savitri: Bk VII, Co V]

“One man” does not mean the so-called Chosen One. It refers to anyone, who can attain perfection. Sri Aurobindo or The Mother did not refer this line for any Chosen Guru. In fact, in Their system of spirituality, there is no other Guru — there is no traditional Guruvaada.
Sri Aurobindo has promised here — every human has the inherent capacity to rise to a spiritual height and integral perfection, by which the world at large — this struggling world — will be saved.

No Prophecy

Sri Aurobindo’s declaration on 24th November 1926 about the descent of the Consciousness of Krishna , the Overmind Consciousness, was NOT a prophecy. It was a statement of a spiritual fact, which occurred on that day. The descent of the Consciousness was in Himself. He, or The Mother, or any of the twenty-four disciples present there, did never make any prophecy about the birth or re-birth of Krishna in human form.

Another similar claim

Even some followers of Satya Sai Baba had a similar claim. Let me quote from what was written by one by H.H. Swami Saiexposedananda :
Unsurprisingly, Sai devotees have seized on this as proof of Sai Baba's divinity and identity with God (Krishna) with no exception, given their belief that Sri Aurobindo was referring to the Baba who was supposedly born on the previous day (Nov. 23). The main problem with this idea is that the followers of Aurobindo widely believe that he was referring to the descent of "Krishna consciousness" into himself, being that he had been in a meditative trance for a long while and had emerged out of said trance on November 24 to inform his followers of his revelation. As an interesting aside, Aurobindo largely retired from public interactions from that date onwards and preferred to spend long periods of time in seclusion while communicating with his followers via letters. Incorrigible Sai devotees seize on that too, presenting it as an example of Aurobindo's taking of voluntary retirement after handing the reins over to "God incarnate"!

[In this connection, the reader may have a perusal of The Day of Victory, an article written by me in All Choice.]

In my article The Day of Victory, I tried to successfully reach the conclusion that the Descent of Krishna’s Consciousness has nothing to do with the birth of Satya Sai.

Similarly, it is utterly wrong and false to connect the happening of the 24th November 1926, as declared by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, with the birth of Guru Siyag. I have nothing to say against Guru Siyag and his spiritual programmes. However, I am completely assured that the sincere followers of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother do not have any necessity to delve into and dwell on such absurd claims one after another!

Falsehood will finally give place to Truth.
May the Day of Victory remain victorious for ever!
